More of a golden amber color, but I’m fine calling it a blonde. Smells of cloves and honey. Caramel, pine and pepper tasting. Subtle nodes of cedar and vanilla. Alcohol is no stranger in this brew. Fulfilling and complex. Damn good. Well done, Capital! frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA

This poured a light-hazed copper with a scummy film atop. Cooked cabbage and tomato over caramel in aroma, this didn’t seem to hold up in the 5+ years since brewing. Despite those adversities, there is still something intriguing about it, drawing me in. A very sweet start over a smooth caramel base, a doppel is the only category I can see this classed as, but due to it’s lightness of color it plays tricks on my mind and palate. A strong, light Bock... intriguing to say the least.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 5, 2009 This light copper beer poured with a decent off-white head and a toffee aroma. There is a hearty roasted malt flavor that starts off sweet, but turns more bitter and medicinal at the finish. jeffc666 (1896), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2004 Mostly clear amber with a very dense off-white head. Glass lacing is quite nice. The aroma is huge fresh baked bread and some sweet malts. Definitely all about the malts. The flavor is moderate brady malts with a good balance of sweetness. Medium body. I was expeting more of an alcohol kick than I got,. A nice neer from a brewer that knows how to put some quality lagers together. iowaherkeye (1877), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 21, 2006 Pours a clear copper with a mod white head, fading to almost nothing quickly. Aroma of caramel malts, corn, and maybe some raisins. Dark fruits in the taste, also some bananas, a little alcohol, slightly bitter finish. Full bodied, fizzy carbonation. Pretty good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2004 Everyone seems to like the Autumnal Fire over this, but I found this one to be a better beer. Bright orange with decent head and much more carbonation than the Fire. Nose hints of alcohol, caramel and sweet sugars, hints of pear and apple. Rich and thick just like the Fire, but with a much livlier mouthfeel. Malts are dominant but unlike the fire, some hops sneak through the big fall brew and make it undeniably (for me, at least) a better beer than the fire! RAYBOY01 (1870), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2006 Very, very malty brew, with intense caramel malt sweetness, but not cloyingly so. Interesting heavy doppel-type sweetness but light golden color. I found this very easy to drink, despite it’s 8% ABV and I would defenitely classify this as a spring seasonal session-type beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 6, 2006 Sampler from bottle. Boy, why can’t I get hands on more Capital beers? Anyway, this is very light in color… as befits its name, I guess. Sugary and malty, kind of like french toast with syrup. Yet I like this one a lot.
