| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 15, 2002 I had this on tap at a bar, but there was no head on this brew that seemed more like an amber color than ’blonde.’ Decent aroma and a bit of a bite on the tongue. At any rate, this one was a bit too sweet for my tastes. Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2004 Copper/orange amber. Turbid carbonation, sweet malty nose, peppery alcohol. Small off white cap. Sweet, chewy malts, pears, white pepper, estery, slightly cloying, slightly lacking in character. Nothing spectacular here, but a fun rendition of a Doppel. notalush (2686), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 13, 2008 My bottle says "platinum blonde doppelbock," but I assume it’s the same beer - clear, fizzy, honey-colored beer - fairly sweet aroma, with some light herbal character and a european hop bite underneath - honey flavor up front - a little too sweet - medium herbal and hop bitterness in the middle - the sweetness becomes prominent again in the finish, and a grainy flavor comes in - the alcohol is apparent at the end, but just enough to be warming - decent. Aroma of caramel, grass, and malt. Flavor of creamy malt and caramel. Metalhead (572), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 28, 2004 Light amber color,medium short lived head.Aroma was of mild malt with hints of candied fruit. Flavor was basically the same. Nice warming effect.Nice mouthfeel,slightly sticky.Good but nothing complex.
Perhaps the fact I drank this at cellar temp instead of cold had something to do with it. I’ll do an add on if need be after a cold one. Scubatrip (388), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 7, 2009 From the bottle, pours a clear light amber with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is lightly corny and mostly malty. Taste is a lot of malt with a cheap-beer-bitter aftertaste. Real easy to drink, light on the palate, but I can’t say this is my favorite of the Capital beers.
