| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 18, 2009 From a 12oz Bottle. Purchased at Riley’s Wines of the World. Brilliantly clear, honey gold colored body with a two-finger head of fizzy white. Rich, melanoidin-laden malt aroma with notes of raisin, plum, vanilla, and treacle. Exceptionally clean, with a wonderful malt richness. No hop aroma. Medium-full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a rich, malty texture. Wow, that’s a lot of Munich malt, but in a really good way. Clean and simple, with flavors of honey, vanilla, raisin, and a mild white pepper character from the lingering alcohol warmth. Low hop bitterness. Almost a hint of toast in the finish, but really more of a raisin skin flavor. This beer really showcases the flavor depth possible from a few simple high quality malts without the distraction of hops or yeast esters. bsp77 (202), Minnesota, USA

More fire orange than blonde. Very little head despite aggressive pour.
Aroma of sweet fruit, light noble hops, slight alcohol.
Very mild taste for a Doppelbock, but quite pleasing. Some fruit. Pepper and spice notes from the noble hops, but no bitterness.
Thick and smooth. Not as chewy as some Doppelbocks, but chewy nonetheless. Low carbonation.
Easier drinking Doppelbock than most. Great Spring seasonal.

Good flavor from start to finish with a slight hoppy taste. LIght palate finish that refreshes. Not one to take lightly, however. Best to have and enjoy at the end of a busy day. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

I’m surprised to see this beer in the low 80s, given its fulfilling flavors and complexity. The connection between beer and Scotch is particularly evident in this brew. Carmel and toffee notes blend finely with vanilla and hazelnut, while the 8.0 ABV imparts warmth to the finish. Of the Doppelbock series, this one is my personal favorite. My recommendation to the brewer over email is to consider ageing this Doppelbock in a Scotch barrel, which I imagine would put this on the Top50 list in no time.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Big Munich malt aroma, bready, toasty, and with little hints of the sweetness you will experience in the taste. Flavor is a candy like sweetness mixed with the wonderful bready texture of the German malts. The sweetness of the melanoidins was intoxicating, just the most pleasant kiss I’ve had in a long time. Normally not a fan of pale Doppels, but this is such a treat. don’t understand the low ratings
