Good flavor from start to finish with a slight hoppy taste. LIght palate finish that refreshes. Not one to take lightly, however. Best to have and enjoy at the end of a busy day. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 17, 2002 Pours with an attractive rocky, dense, and creamy foam with great cling and stay. Looks like an English IPA, with its light amber hue. The aroma is surprisingly hoppy, which exudes pepper and a light fruitiness. Exhibits the mark of some Triples with its phenolic notes, as well. Mouthfeel is moderately full. Alcoholic fullness quickly comes into play before a long dry, yeast, and malt finish. Slightly cloying, which takes away points. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2002 It is what it is, and that is a well made extra strong pale lager. Like many in this catagory it is not bitter enough to truly balance the sweet character of the malt, but the malt does serve nicely to make the high level of alcohol palatable. It is a very satisfying draught, but not one to have more than a half liter of at a time. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2003 A wooden orange color with amedium white head. Aroma of oak, sweet caramel, alcohol. A sweet light toffee taste. A light body with a heavy feel. This taste better and smoother as you get to the end of the glass. I had this a number of years ago and am glad my memory did not disappoint. An excellent example of an unusual style. Can not tell it is 9%. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 9, 2004 Appearance: bright and transparent reddish hue, with a big, fresh, fluffy head.
Aroma is sweet, a bit fruity, and fierce: alcohol, though not major, is still sitting tall on top and evident in the nose.
Taste: BAM! Shammalamma, boom! Sh-bam! Tiny hops, Big, muth*&^%in’ malt all up in y’alls mouth! Mouth-filling texture, though overall the body is light. It’s just that big, fat flavor, tasty, lip-smackin’, delicious. Big, wonderful flavor stands out always, rings through the senses, congratulates you for consuming it.
If you’re craving a beer from Wisconsin, this had better be the one. We’ll be screening any excuses for other options, but it’s a strict judge and jury. Really, this is the stuff!

Smells warm and sweet... lots of malt carmel and plum hints of alcohol. Medium body good creaminess. Flavor is sweet malt touches of carmel and honey hints of bread and a spicy yeasty finish w/ a warm swallow. Good stuff. fakepurseninja (785), Washington, USA

Vanilla and sweet dark fruits are evident along with soft hop spice and slight pepper. yemenmocha (363), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 3, 2009 Pours a luxurious golden color with generous white head that retains rather well. Nose is quite appetizing with soft malt aromas, yet is overall clean. On the palate this beer is again clean, crisp, good malt presence with not too much alcohol warmth.
Complexity isn’t the goal here, and many other reviewers gave misguided reviews of this beer in my opinion. This straightforward malty, clean bock is very rewarding and hard to find anything in the U.S. that comes close in this style.
