| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 30, 2005 Sampled from a bottle, this one pours to a brown mahogany body with a medium beige head. The head disapated rather quickly but not fully to a thin head with excellent lacing. The aroma is full of roasted almonds, cashews, and walnuts. Light caramel too. Kinda reminds me of the "Boston Baked Bean candy" I had as a child. The flavor is nutty, thick/heavy cakey bread, light caramel and milk chocolate. For a brown ale, this is pretty decent. I do get a little bit of hoppiness (English-like) to the flavor. The palate is fairly good. GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Hazy brown color with thin off-white head. Nutty flavor and nose with a hint of chocolate. Very smooth finish. One of my favorite brown ales along with Beantown nutbrown brewed at Boston Beer Works. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2005 Updated: Jun 30, 2006Rich brown in body with a thin tan head, this ale is replete with chocolate and caramel in both aroma and taste. There’s nothing exciting here, unless you’re turned on by traces of maple, but this is a solid, enjoyable brown ale. It fades, somewhat, in the finish, but otherwise has the makings of a good session ale.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 17, 2005 Golden-brown colour. Brown sugar and light hazelnut aroma. Sweetish character with the same brown sugar and nuts. Thin body. Quick, slightly metallic finish. Newcastleish. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Bottle: Brownish amber, clear, large off-white head, foamy, lively carbonation, decent lacing. Odd mix of cocoa and vegetables on the nose, slightly sweet. Malty/Grainy backbone, with a fairly sweet and soft hop forefront. Mix of Cocoa and vegetables still remains, yet subtle.   Moderate body and mouthfeel. Malt backbone weakens at the exit, leaving the beer to be a touch thin in that aspect. Overall too light for my tastes, but pleasent even with the odd Cocoa + vegetable tinge.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2005 Almost like an authentic German alt. Might be more alt-like w/ Hallertauer or Tettenger instead of the Fuggles and Brewers, but it’s a good German ale nonetheless. Nutty, as everyone mentions, creamy, and rich. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
