Chestnut brown with ruby tints. Maldy, moderately sweet by its aroma, then lots of caramel and vanilla in the flavor. A bit hot from the alcohol but really good flavor. Thanks Skyview!

On draught at the brewery taproom in Middleton, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark cola brown brew with a creamy beige head that has some nice retention and spotty lacing. When served cold, allow this to warm up a little. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, a touch of brown sugar, toffee and some alcohol. Taste is full bodied, light carbonated with flavors of roasted caramel malt, roasted nuts, dark pitted fruits, a hint of raisins and plenty of alcohol. Finish has a high alcohol warmth that hides most of the aftertaste, plus a semi-dry character. Surprisedly different than the former Dark Doppelbock Capital brewed over two years ago, but definitely higher in alcohol.

Only on tap..? I thought I saw this in bottles the other day. Maybe not.. Anyway, I had this big hearty beer on tap at the Malt House in Madison. Pours a dark dark brown colour with a fairly large tan head. Aroma is slightly raisiny, dates and fig on the nose. Subtle oak, caramel and toast on the palate. Taste is rather flavourful actually. Firm and astringent, but super smooth. Creamy with noticeable alcohol notes throughout. nice beer!

Now bottled, part of the Square Series, as Imperial Doppelbock, 9%. Clear brown color, with hues of burnt orange when held to the light. Diminished tan head. Straight forward aroma, with dark caramel and toasted malt. Full malt flavors. Lots of caramelized sugar. Melanoidins abound. Smooth, slightly oily feel. Looking for the alcohol, but I’m not finding it. A brew which shows the malt well. A pure and simple doppelbock.

Pours a transparent amber mahogany with a thin ring of light tan head. Has a rich dark caramely malty nose and light fruity notes with a touch of bready yeast. Starts with good rich caramel malty sweetness and fruity esters with a drier slightly warming milk chocolate finish. A pretty true to style and complex doppelbock.

Aroma of malt and molasses. Dark brown body, thin tan head, some lace. Flavor built around rich, raisiny malts, caramel, toffee, nuts, some green apple, a little fusel. Overall quite tasty. Thick bodied, but lively on the tongue.

Growler courtesy of Skyview. Very dark red color with no head. Caramel aroma. More caramel flavor, lightly roasted malts. A bit of a soy sauce character, but not in an incredibly detrimental way.
