Not very carbonated but creamy and rich. Delicious sweet banana on the palate with some vanilla and citrus. Very enjoyable. Thanks Beervana for the bottle. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 19, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Ughsmash, thanks Jason!) While I know that vanilla is acceptable according to the style guidelines, it still seems really odd to taste vanilla in a beer that is supposedly a German hefeweizen, probably because the vanilla really does seem way too prominent here. The wheat flavor, light spice, and obvious banana are also present and more what I expected. However, maybe it’s just my expections, but the label says it’s a Bavarian Style Hefe Weizen, yet I find this beer to be ridiculously sweet. Initially I thought I was tasting honey, but I think it’s more the flavor of overripe bananas. Vanilla and sweet banana dominate the nose as well, just like the flavor. Body is light-medium with good carbonation. Pale golden and very hazy in appearance, but not what I’d call cloudy. Maybe it’s the screwtop cap, but there was hardly a wimper from the bottle when I opened it, and the beer poured with a small, fizzy, off-white head that was completely gone in a flash. Plain and simple, this beer is just way too sweet for the style, and there’s nothing to offset it. I don’t find this to be a terrible beer, but I think it is terribly out of balance. I’m obviously not a fan of this well-regarded beer. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Aroma is wheat, yeast, and a touch of honey. also a bit of bannana and a bit of spice. Flavor is clove, bannana, honey, a bit of lemon. Palate is light and airy and very drinkable. Quite enjoyable on a summers day I’m sure and tasty even on a cold winter day in Ohio.. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

Pours to a glowing copper kettle colored body with a nearly non-existent white head. Spotty lacing. The aroma is very nice. Spicy hops, lots of sweet malts, very characteristically hefe. Clove, wheat, light honey lemon. The flavor is nicely sweet. Wheat, cloves, clover, and lemons. The palate is medium-light bodied, light creamyness. I’m liking this a lot. Way to go Capital. This is my favorite Hefe true to style (as opposed to Gumbalhead or Stone 9th, which are wheat beers not true to style.) Notes of honey and wheat, with some citrus blend together. Maybe light in bodied compared to an imperial stout, yes, but not compared to most in its class. There’s no beer I’d rather be drinking on a hot summer day. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 20, 2005 Its been murder getting throught all these bottles from my Secret Santa. This poured a hazy yellow with no head. The aroma is nice and spicy, smokey and smells of rice and honey as well. The flavor is not as interesting, but good nonetheless. Flavor comes off as some corn with a bit of spice. Palate is boring as well, nothing too interesting.
