2006 bottle from StewardofGondor drunk on 6/27/06.
Pale straw highlights sparkle throughout a very light copper background, as a foamy, off-white head builds and remains through most of the glass (receding to cover, with moderate lacing in patches). High clarity, but not altogether crystal clear, and ample carbonation is shown throughout the liquid.
The nose invites you in with soft, fuzzy, playful German hops (I think I smell hallertauer, anyway). Mossy, with lime and lemon tints and a fresh, herbal zestiness, it slowly but perfectly melds with the light pils malt-like honey sweetness and you get the best of both worlds (malt and hops). Yeast is lightly crisp, certainly noticeable, but not biting or heavy. Nor is the malt overly bready and drying in the nose. Almost pilsener-like but with just enough fruitiness to spell out a bock. Very crisp and easygoing while providing a large amount of aroma.
The flavor relies much on the honey sweet malts, with bits of light graham crackery malts adding some light dryness. Hops are again soft, fuzzy and lightly herbal in character, as some yeast bi-products emerge on the end (peaches, nectarines). A touch sugary and the soft carbonation really accentuates this strong maltiness, but the finish is no slouch and a moderately crisp lager yeast bite upholds the drinkability. Some light hardness proceeds as the beer breathes (a light sourdough, or toasty-like note) that is quite welcome. Hops trail off lightly on the end. No alcohol noted in flavor or aroma.

bottle - Sparkling golden hue with a full white frothy head. Aroma of ripening fruits and an earthy maltiness. Palate is very pleasant with a moderate amount of carbonation and a smooth but not thick mouthfeel. Lightly hopped. Thanks to my Papabeer for bring back good Wisconsin brews from his fishing trip!

Clear golden color with a large foamy head. Sweet malty aroma and flavor. It is creamy, almost buttery on the palate but starts feeling more bitter as you go. A nice beer.

From a 12 oz. twist cap long neck brown bottle with a coded freshness date on shoulder of bottle. Made a good appearance, poured a clear light reddish golden with a foamy white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, moderate carbonation. Had a caramelized and toasted grainy malty nose with hints of a earthy fruitiness at the fringes. A malty crisp, creamy smooth lightish medium bodied mouthfeel, good drinkability. Nice malty taste, sweet caramelized malt and grains that is balanced by an ever so subtle sour fruitiness, keeping the taste from being too sweet, an earthiness shows up towards the end and a dryish grainy and malty finish. A very good Maibock from a quality brewery, well worth trying.
