Lightly sweet malts in the nose with faint vinous and honeyish notes as well. Body is medium, lightly creamy on the palate. Sweet malts and honey flavors with a light graininess. A small astringency shows as it warms. Finish is sweet. ehhdayton (1113), USA

The color is a golden brown with a quickly diminishing off white head. The flavor is a slight roasted malt and hop. The body is medium. RAYBOY01 (1834), Chicago, Illinois, USA

VERY watered down version of a bock...pallid maltiness, and half-hearted hopping. I do detect a fruiy flavor (raisins?) that helps. But it does not excite me. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA

He sent me so many beers its hard to keep track of them all. Bottle poured a nice hazy amber orange with a thin cream head. Aroma is a slightly sweet caramel malt with a tiny bit of spice. Flavor is really nice, fruity, hearty and some grain flavor to it. Palate is smooth and really unoffending. A solid beer, very drinkable and quite tastey. twindadplus2 (415), Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2005 Orange amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of bready and sweet malt, yeast and alcohol. Flavor starts with a spicy hit of alcohol and hops and segues nicely to the malt. Medium, slightly oily body with a nice spicy finish. A very good bock. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 24, 2005 Clear copper in color, no head. The nose is pretty much malts and yeast and some grains. The taste is at first spicy then goes to grains, yeast and malts. There is quite a bit of an alcohol kick to it and is probably what provides the spicyness. Overall, somewhat uneventful but pleasant. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 7, 2005 Dull light amber colour. Bready aroma with a hint of peppery alcohol. Flavour is much the same...it’s a fairly simple beer really. Now, maibock is supposed to be a two note beer, which is one of the reasons I don’t much care for it. There are two things I think maibocks should do - one is balance off the two elements. This beer does that. The spiciness and dryness of the alcohol is a great foil for what would otherwise be a fairly syrupy beer. The other thing I want is beautifully extracted malts. That’s a bit trickier. Lord knows I can’t do it myself. But Andechs, Ayinger...those Bavarian guys can. That’s why they are the masters.
