Pretty true to style. Crisp and almost lactic at the same time, with a solid malt base. Very well balanced with good hop character as well. Not as much depth as some German examples, but still a good beer. Baumgartner (108), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2009 120z bottle. Pours a dark orange color with a big, fluffy off-white head. aroma is of toasted malt, grain, honey, caramel, and light hops. Taste is lightly hopped with lots of honey and grain. Has a toasted malt backbone, that borders on biscuity with lots of caramel. Lingering taste of caramel on the tongue. Mouthfeel is creamy, yet very crisp. Alcohol isn’t present at all. A very refrshing and enjoyable beer. Could have used a bigger hop presence, but it’s good. wxman (587), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Pours a clear deep orange-gold with a big off-white head that produces some lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and honey. Sweet lightly-toasted malt flavor along with some buttery caramel and slight hop bitterness. 6.2 % ABV not elevated enough to negatively affect the taste (good thing), but enough to get your attention. True to type and a pretty fine effort! jebert (113), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Pours a beautiful dark golden color topped by a creamy light tan head with nice lacing. Bouquet is mostly hops and grain. Very creamy mouthfeel. Nicely carbonated. Taste is sweet malt with a nice light hop finish. A good start to spring, this bock pairs well with burgers, chicken or snacks. notalush (2664), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 10, 2009 Tap - clear fizzy amber - minimal head - fairly straightforward and clean maibock - moderate honey sweetness, toasted malts, caramelized sugars, some floral character - very mild bittering hops in the finish are not enough to balance the sweetness - okay. | 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Mar 24, 2009 Pours a golden straw color with a thin head that dissipates quickly. Lots of carbonation apparent. Smells very hoppy for a lager but smells like rancid hops. Also smells like nasty toast. Tastes like a strong can of PBR. I have to say the few American maibocks I have had have been pretty vile. Didn’t like this at all. Fire Autumnal is a great lager from this brewery but this just tastes like a juiced up PBR which to me is nasty. GAManiac (1167), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2009 Pours a light golden amber with a small creamy white head that stays on as a collar and leaves a bit lacing.
Aroma is dominated by light toasted malts with some vanilla and caramel sweetness. There are some earthy hops in the background as well.
The taste is a tad sweeter than the nose with the malts having a more caramel flavor. The toasted character is a bit less than in the aroma. The hops are there in the finish, though very subtle.
The mouthfeel is creamy with good carbonation but still leaves a very clean, crisp finish.
This is a very good maibock and I have yet to be let down by a Capital brew. These guys really know how to brew a great lager...
