Jul 28, 2004 Bottle (thanks to BadgerBen). Pours clear dark reddish-brown with a moderate tan head that diminished fully leaving a trace of lacing. Aroma is rich and roasty, nutty with hints of chocolate. Flavor is sweet and full, dark malts and molasses with a pleasant hop bite in the finish. Medium body and nice carbonation. Overall a very good bavarian style dark.

Jun 22, 2004 Dark Ruby brown with thick head. Malt/ hoppy nose. Creamy rich molasses, front and mid palates feel heavy but finishes very clean. Some hoppiness lingering mixed with sweet molasses.

Jun 2, 2004 Clear dark red with a bit of dark brown swirled inside. The head is huge and just a little darker than white. Chewy caramel, a little raisin, wheat bread, whole grains and a little residual sweetness. Clean and refreshing body. This is so drinkable its scary--I had three before I even realized it. Nice malty body with a good roasted character and only a touch of sweetness. Just a touch of hops in the finish to keep things interesting. Another finely crafted beer from Capital.

May 30, 2004 Again another solid beer from Capital brewery. Not much head but big coffee/chocolate with a hoppy underbite. Very nice, good gravity. A substantial beer thats flavor is very smooth and drinkable.

May 24, 2004 12 oz bottle: translucent sequoia red-brown, with a large billowing off-tan head that falls in on itself in several areas. Strawberry-banana malt aroma with a slight sourness. Nicely carbonated and tasty: winey white grapes, toasty malts, sweet grains and some pears. Bitter sweet hop finish. Decent, but doesn’t have as good a malt profile as I had hoped.

May 20, 2004 This seemed more like a Schwarzbier than a dunkel. Aroma of peaches and honey. Very dark brown with red on the edges. A light and slightly sour taste of toast and lemons. Has the typical cheesy after taste that Capitals tend to have.
