Pours a nice woody amber brown- modest off white head and some solid lace. Aroma is nice nutty toasty malts, light dry dusty chocolate malts, and a sharp black malt character that lends lamost a light metla hint. toasty and bready malts, burnt toast is obvious, light sweetness, some nutty chocoalte and a drying earthiness in the end. Light body and mouthfeel even for the styl,e, but still pretty close to being very traditional. Nice.

Bought a single of this at 3 Cellars when I realized that I’d not yet tried quite a few Capital beers. And it was pretty decent but not far above average; there’s a reason there’s not a lot of buzz (for good or bad) about this brewery. Still, I enjoyed it, and if my options were limited I’d be happy to have it again. This is a good looking beer. Nice deep red color, sparkling body, and good sturdy/sticky head formation in good quantity. Aroma is some light caramel. Flavor is a little sweet (like a sweet sweat flavor, but not unpleasant) up front, followed by some not over-powerin caramel maltiness in the body, and a bit of bitterness at the finish. Nice. Mouthfeel is OK, but just a tick on the watery side. Still, nice. This is a pretty drinkable and approachable beer that won’t blow your socks off, but is nothing to sneeze at either. I’d have it again.

Sampled at Food and Froth. Excellent -- nice smoky, rich body without being too heavy. Perfect for a cold, snowy night!

12 oz bottle. Sweet, malty aroma with a dark copper brown pour and lingering head. Sweet malt taste, with a touch of smoke and bitterness at the end to balance the maltiness up-front. Could definately have a few of these on this cold winter’s night!

Dark brown, cloudy, with a thin head. Roasted nuts and carmel aroma notes. Carmel, nut roast, and hop finish. Full bodied, with mild bitter end. A dunkel, but also reminded me of an English ESB.

12 oz botttle

It’s hard to believe I have had this so many times yet never rated it properly. Given that it is going to be tough to locate Capital outside of Wisconsin and Minnesota I picked up a single to remind me of home. After settling in I cracked it open on a cool fall evening. It was just as good as I remember; this is a nice standby beer for those lucky enough to be in the Madison/Milwaukee area.

Aroma / Appearance - Caramel, molasses and malt fill the air with a hint of coffee in the background. The overall impression reminds me of rye bread with raisins cooked into it. The reddish brown body let about half the light trickle through. Sitting on top was an off white short lived head.

Flavor / Palate - Rye bread, raisins and dark malts wash over the tongue on the first sip. Next comes day old coffee before a semidry finish. The mouthfeel is fluid and simple; nothing is hiding in the last sip that wasn’t there before. This is a nice easy going beer just as I would expect from Capital.

Brown color with a medium off-white head. Roasty aroma with some bready malt, light summer fruit, and honey sweetness in the nose. Flavor is a bit bready and sweet, with some light fruit taste but drops off really quickly. I guess I expect a higher quality taste all the way through, but this one came up a tad bit short. Still highly drinkable with a light meal.
