Capital does solid German beers. I am not so certain that the expansion into Belgian styles is working out so well however. Before I checked the ratings of others I would have taken this for a premium lager instead. It has some aspects of a Belgian ale but not enough to make it clear. The main suprise is the ABV which I was not expecting from such an easy drinking release.
Aroma / Appearance - A huge billowing white head surged above the top of my pint glass. Beneath was a transparent coppery body which was easy to see through. Pineapple, malt, orange and yeast form a thick almost cloying aroma. Wheat plays nicely in the background.
Flavor / Palate - Peanut butter on toasted rye bread surges across the tongue. Next comes malty oranges before a warm finish. The alcohol is never revealed throughout the bottle. Even though it isn’t quite what I was expecting this is not the worst thing on the planet. It is worth a look if you happen to find a bottle for $1.50. Strykzone (1501), Wood River, Illinois, USA

Very light carbonation in the glass. Yeast, sugar, and spice in the aroma. Pepper spice, sugar, yeast flavors. The spice lights the front of the tongue up. This all happens in the first half of the glass. The second half is honey, caramel malt, and sugar. Looks are deceiving here. This one didn’t look like much but that hid some good stuff. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Light spice with Belgian yeast in the aroma. Flavor has salt and Belgian yeast. A dry Belgian ale. It is pretty good, but it needs a better name. "Prairie Gold" screams pale lager. 1FastSTi (2590), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2008 Tap. Pours to a golden amber body with a thin white head. The aroma is a floral pale lager thing. Didn’t seem Belgian at all but that’s my thoughts on it. Sweet and spicy. Nice palate. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2008 Clear golden color with a decent, pillowy head. Light, tangy citrus aroma with a hint of doughy sweet malt. Tastes of honey and citrus with a mildly tart, dry finish. Mild carbonation and light bodied. Very tasty and drinkable. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 12, 2008 6.7% ABV? Amazing. Perfectly clear gold. Small head. Sweet aroma. Very drinkable and satisfying. I am not a beer expert but this really doesn’t seem to be a Belgian Ale. GeneralGao (3076), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

The aroma was of bread dough, clove, and light husky grain with a hint of banana. Poured a clear light orange-gold color with a white head. Only a bit of lace was left behind on the glass at the end. Light bodied and dry with moderate carbonation. I tasted clove, honey, and subdued citrus fruits (lemon/orange). Light citrusy tartness emerged at the end. Pretty good, but would like to try an unfiltered version.
