FlagstoneHill (201), Erie, Colorado, USA Aug 20, 2008 12 oz bottle / 18 Aug 08
Rich, sweet malty aroma, with little hops to back it up
Dark orange, slight haze, off white head
Malty flavors of biscuit, dark bread, some alcohol, no hop flavor. Some bitterness, but Malt is the game here
Med-hvy body, light carb, a bit warming<br<
A rich, thick, savory ale, lots of body, mostly malty. could use a bit more hop character to add balance and interest. jebert (53), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a hazy cooper color with a tan, mostly disappating, head. Aroma is malt and carmel. Very creamy and pleasing mouthfeel. Taste is loaded with carmel, toffee and honey. Flavor compares to a barleywine with its stronger alcoholic content. Nice sipping beer best served alone or with lightly salted nuts or pretzels. phishpond417 (1463), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 19, 2008 Pours a hazey orange colour with an almond coloured head. Aroma is of moderate alcohol fumes, and carmel. Mouthfeel is light and creamy with prevalent caramel and butterscotch flavors. Slightly nutty. finishes weak. esjaygee (830), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jul 3, 2008 Unfiltered amber with off-white head. Aroma of strong caramel, sweet malts, sugar and mild bubblegum. Flavor of thick caramel, sugar, fruit, vanilla, toasted malts and alcohol. Full bodied behemoth with a mild alcohol burn on the back end. Decent, whatever it is. JB175 (1366), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle - Brainfart when it comes to who sent it, but thanks!!! Aroma is sweet with some honey, bread, and light hops. Flavor has some heavier hoppage with citrus, candy, and bread. Not bad, though odd for an "American Strong Ale" and very odd for a Capital brew. I might need more of these before I know what to think of this one.
