Aroma of malt, spice, fruit, slight cognac. Tastes malty, with some frutiness, slight caramel, and toffee in the finish. Solid. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

Aroma is very hoppy. The flavor I expected from the aroma was amalty monster but is somewhat tempered by a suprising sweetness. Not my favorite Capital brew, but very enjoyable. burcusabrews (106), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 6, 2004 Tap: This poured a copper color with a short-lived white head. The aroma is of very sweet malts and fresh grasses. The taste, too, is very sweet, quite caramelly. There’s kind of a surprising bitter finish. It’s not bad. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2004 Golden brown with a nicely caramelled and hallertaued nose. Body is thin, but tasty. Malt charachter is bigger with plenty of caramel and a hint of nuts, grassy and dry at the finish wirth even a slight bitterness. A nice Vienna. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 26, 2004 Transparent bronze appearance, short-lived, slim off-white head.
Nose is a bouquet of caramel malt sweetness, with herbal, grassy notes, as well...rich and arousing.
Caramel and toffee tones return on the palate, big and brash in taste, sticks long in the senses, before slipping away. Medium-bodied, long, slick finish. Full-forward sweetness, a constant pleasure and easy as pie to travel down the throat.
Unbeatable, as far as Vienna lagers go.
I’d take one any time.
