Capitol City Belgian Cherry Wheat

Sampled on tap on 7/15/06 at the downtown location called "Belgian Fruit": Pours an amber copper with a thin covering of white head. Sweet, fresh, fruity raspberry and pale malty aroma. Body starts sweet and candy-like fruity with a light mouthfeel and some grainier muddled bitter hoppy finish. Starts promising but finishes more of a let down.

Draft at Shirlington. Hazy color. Aroma is fruity, and it does taste like cherry. Wasn’t my favorite of the place, but was decent enough.

Draft... Downtown D.C. location... Hazy, yellow ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Mild, fruity esters, subtle graham and fresh cherries in the nose. Lots of fresh cherries or fresh cherry puree in the flavor. No wacky Belgian esters, spices or fruit peels. Hint of tanginess and dry, unmalted wheat. Light to medium-bodied and fizzy. Short, crisp, delicate cherry finish.

[As 4 raters before me have, I’m going to rate the Belgian Fruit that I had at the Downtown location prior to the RBESG 2006 here] A reddish beer with no head. The aroma is quite light with notes of strawberries. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of fruit, strawberries, and berries of the forrest. Forgettable.

Draft @ Capitol City DowntownCalled the Belgian Fruit beer. Dark amber, thin head, light lacing. Nose of starchy sour fruity, light belgian esters and some hint of malt. The flavor is similar, fairly brash and uninteresting, like a botched try at a kriek or framboise. Finishes tart, funky, thin and husky.

on tap at the brewpub. pours a light copper cloudy color. incredibly sweet flavor. seques into a fruity tartness. flavors of raspberry, cherry and plum. the body and finish are thin; residual aldehyde. the aroma is of berries. the beer has as thin white head. tangy entrance on tongue that tastes like raspberry jolly rancher.

Rated as "Capitol City Belgian Fruit" from the Downtown location, July 2006. Soft red grapefruit colored cloudy appearance. Some sour cream and raspberries in the nose, moderately lactic aroma. Sour citrus up front, low carbonation, mildly tart, like unripened, greenish strawberries. I don’t really get any of the Belgian/wit/hefe qualities in this beer. It’s ok, but nothing great.

I’m going to assume for the time being that this is the "Belgian Fruit" beer at the Downtown location during the RBSG DC Pub Crawl. aracauna has rated it and I know that there was no other similar beer at either location, so.... Draft with a huge fruity nose. Cherries, plum and berries with yeast notes in the nose. Big fruit flavors and yeast with cherry being dominant and berries coming through as well. Light bodied and smooth. FInishes sweet and fruity with light yeast notes.
