Draft... Downtown D.C. location... Murky, burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Trippel-like nose with notes of pear, banana and Granny Smith apple. Fruity, sweet flavor up front. Well-bittered on the backside. Medium to full-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet, then lightly bitter. This beer’s all over the place. Five styles all stuffed into one glass. Disappointing... much like a pizza ordered at a burgers/tacos/chicken/pizza joint.

On Draft at the Brewpub. Dark ruby pour with only a little head of white cream. Aroma is fruity... very fruity. This almost seemed more of a fruit beer than a dubbel. The yeast was the only thing that told me it was "belgian" in style. The body was decent, not watery. The finish was sticky sweet and difficult to drink more than a few sips. Disappointing to say the least. Way too sweet for the style.

Deep hazed orangey copper, fizzy lasting light tan head. Upon warming, rich nose of rum raisin, sugared plum and banana, and spiced fig newtons. Flavor has notes of all the above with just a touch of light bittering in the end. Definite Belgian-like dark fruity yeast flavors throughout the whole glass. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, dark fruity finish. Interesting brew that for whatever reason just agreed with me....

Caramel, acidic aromas from this soupy-looking dubbel. A disappointment in the head department as well. The fruit (pear/green apple) lacks the spice and kick of a good dubbel on both the nose and the palate. Sweet, caramel bite and clean finish, not soapy and not too dry.
