Commercial Description:
British brewers attempting to create a 'nutritious' beverage began to add oatmeal to the grist, and eureka!..out came a stunning oatmeal stout. Our version is very full bodied with an almost silky feel. This is a semi-sweet stout that is balanced with the coffee roastiness at the finish.

Sampled on tap on 7/15/06 at the Capitol Hill location: Pours a mostly opaque black with brown edges and a large, frothy tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet roasted and caramel malts with some graininess and light hops. Body starts with some earthy dark malty and milk chocolatey flavors thinning some toward a more bitter, slightly drier finish.

Draft at Capitol City location. Dark body with a small tan head. Aromas of roasted coffee. Very smooth with flavors of coffee, chocolate, and roastiness. I was pleasantly suprised with this one.

Tap at the Capitol Hill location.

"The other blackout stout." Well, not really .This one has an attractive dark pour and a decent aroma, very roasty, but the body is light, the roasts hold back, and the heart seems to be made of sugar water. Nonetheless, it’s fairly pleasing and drinkable as the brews here go. Certainly it’s a long shot better than their porter.

Draft... Capitol Hill location... Black ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Great retention and lacework. The nose is all coffee, chocolate and toasted cashews. Leans a hair on the sweet side of balance. Big chocolate and restrained vanilla. Medium-bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation. Chocolaty, slightly sweet finish. A very pleasant surprise!

Draught. Black with red around the edges, tan head. Roasty, creamy nose. Flavor is chocolate, cream and sweet. Light, but not wimpy.

Draft at Capitol City Union Station. Pours black with a tan head that lasts. Lots of lacing. Aroma of oats and sweetened coffee. Taste is the same with some faint fruitiness. Mellow finish. Very good paired with the BBQ sandwich.

Draft @ Capitol City Capitol Hill Dark black, tan head, light lacing. Nose of bright roast, sweet astringency and creamy coffee. The flavor is nice and chewy, plenty of fruit and dark malt. Sweet tame finish. Good stout. Blackout?!?!?!
