Black hued beer having a small off white head. No discernable carbonation. Soft roasted malt aroma. Medium bodied stout with smooth and creamy texture that starts with light sweet malt and roasted malt/expresso flavors. Finishes dry with light roasted malt bitterness. An excellent drinkable stout with pronounced roasted barley flavor. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA

This was my first beer at Capitol City brewing, and while it wasn’t my last, it certainly could have been had I sat at a table instead of a booth, where I was smashed against the wall. timmy300 (199), bloomington, Illinois, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 7, 2005 Had this on draft at the Capitol City Capitol Hill location on September 5th, 2005. Opaque dark brown to near black body. Nose is roasty and coffee-ish with sweet choco-notes and cocoa. Taste is similar with some oatmeal coming through as well as light coffee, sweet chocolate, and roasted malts. Some faint hints of fruit as well. Body is medium and mixed with moderate carbonation. The finish is roasty with sweet malts, cocoa, oatmeal, and choco-notes. Pretty good! Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 6, 2005 I didn’t realize when I had this at the brewpub that they had previously (a year ago or so) had an "Oatmilk" stout. But here this was on the menu as an oatmeal stout, and I subsequently called and verified that this is a different beer. Very smokey, roasted, chocolate aroma. Very dark brown color, 95% opaque, clinging head. Good robust flavor, not the most sophisticated (lacking a few subtleties) but still, densely packed with chocolate and coffee, with an odd sense of eating out-of-the-box chocolate brownies that have an artificial frosting. Moderate palate--very normal, not especially anything. Good. (on tap at Postal Square location) ivan9856 (129), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 31, 2005 From the tap at the Downtown location, this stout is nearly opaque and dark brown. I sampled two pint glasses. There was nearly no head in both pours. Missing, too, was any appreciable aroma. On the positive side, the flavor palate starts semi-sweet with appropriate dark malt roastiness, molasses and coffee flavors nicely balanced in the bitter hop, long-lasting finish. The advertised oatmeal addition didn’t quite add to the body of this stout as advertised. I found the body to be a little thin, actually. Overall, though, this was a decent offering. After all, I drank two....
