gws57 (1131), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Jun 29, 2009 Had this one on draught at the brewpub near Union Station in Washington, D.C. Hazy medium brown pour, foamy tan head, nose and flavors of soy sauce, dark chocolate and plum dominate, this one is also good! alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA May 31, 2009 On tap. Color was dark reddish brown. Aroma of caramel, nuts and cocoa. Flavor was nutty and caramel. Pretty solid flavor and better than expected. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Oct 13, 2008 Draught at the brewpub, downtown Dark amber color. A balanced Brown Ale, with some caramel and chocolate, without obsessive heavily roasted malt. Correct. italianjohn (338), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2008 Was better than the amber ale had a nice taste of roasted malt could taste some caramel not too heavy attractive brown color and a pleasant smell I’d have this one again ..... Again they lost points they advertise a free pint glass with entree order but they were out of them tsk tsk food was a tad overpriced but we are rating the beer here right? argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Oct 4, 2008 (Capitol Hill, identified as American Brown Ale) Medium beige head atop clear chestnut brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, nut, caramel, chocolate, some earthy. Taste is medium sweet, nut, earthy, chocolate, caramel, light citrus. Light-medium body. Bierkrug (235), Idar-Oberstein (in Pakistan), Germany Sep 14, 2008 Too much unnatural flavors for me. Beer was way too sweet and left a strange sticky feeling in the mouth with a bad after taste. Typical American ice cream parlor flavored brewery stuff. Not real beer by European standards. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jan 29, 2006 Draft. Rusty brown with a lighter brown head, fully diminishing. Sweet malts accompany some husky grain notes on the nose. Fair level of bitterness throughout. Some coffee, some chickory, and nice hop accents. Full-bodied. A bit lacking in carbonation, however, taking away from the dry, completing finish. hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 28, 2006 Draft... Downtown, D.C. location... Hazed, dark, ruby ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Chocolate and light coffee in the nose. Roasted flavor. Medium bitter; not much else to speak of. Satisfying for the style. Medium-bodied and dry with lively carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter.
