| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Growler. Aroma of citrus hops and lightly roasty caramel malt. Flavor again straightforward on both fronts, semi-big on both the hops and the caramel, some dusty earth in there was well, maybe a bit of a brown sugar note. Pretty good stuff. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2007 Listed as Double D at the downtown location. It appears as a murky and bready brown colored body with a tan head. The first taste is rough, heavy on toast and bread flavors, and it’s chewy and thick, with plum and walnut and bread crust. Very nutty and toasty, actually, and heavy on the palate, with some toasty and dry hops as well. The nose smells strongly of bread crust as well, with some alcohol and husky grains noticed as well, along with a rather large dose of a chewy, cherry flavored malty body, reminding me of the same flavors found in Stone Double Bastard. Overall it’s big a sticky and chewy, and that’s about all it has going for it. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 21, 2007 Sampled on draught, at the Shirlington, VA location. This beer is a bigger, bolder, version of their Amber Waves, which is a "steam beer", or California common, by style. Pours to a slightly hazy, caramel color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose is fragrant, with lots of good citrus and piney hops, paired with good sweet and caramel malt, and good, fruity, estery aromas. The palate is firm, with lots of good caramel and sweet malt flavor, and really nice plummy and fruity esters. This beer finishes with more really good malt and fruit flavors, then ends with some good citrus hop bitterness that lingers. Dangerously drinkable at 8% abv. Delicious beer, just packed with flavor. Makes a nice beer to sip and relax with at the bar, and makes a great after work coctail. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

Pegged as "Double D" when I went here. Hazy amber, light head and lacing. Nose of fresh dry hops, amber malt and a nice creamy malt-ness. The flavor is balanced, citrusy, grassy, herbal, caramelly, moderate alcohol. The finish is rich and chewy. Nice double red or amber, or whatever. jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA
