Suttree (2265), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 28, 2008 Cloudy dark gold, nice sized white head. Citrusy, "wheaty" aroma. Lots of wheat character in the flavor, as well. Some unfortunate notes of cardboard, too. Woody, hoppy finish. Sampled at the Raleigh WBF.
JoeMcPhee (3632), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 14, 2008 Tap at the downtown location. Cloudy deep yellow-orange beer. Aroma is very clovy initially, but with nice notes of banana and melon as well. Flavour is also nice and balanced. Good clove/banana balance (leaning more to clove) with a lovely softly spicy wheatiness. A touch of sweetness on the back, but nothing cloying or sticky. Quite a nice spicy hefe. KUEric (551), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Jun 11, 2008 Typical Hefe. I’ve never had a breweries hefe and been blown away. Maybe my palate isn’t refined enough but unless its bad, all hefes are the same. Some are more grassy than others. kidmartinek (653), austin, Texas, USA May 19, 2008 Pours cloudy golden with a small head for a hefe. Aroma of banana, yeast, and vanilla. Great lacing. It’’s so cloudy, I can’t see if there’’s any bubbling but I’m sure there is because of the fizzy mouthfeel. Textute is also slightly dry. Flavor is mostly bubblegum and so wheat malts. Finis is a little harsh. General_Gao (2357), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 24, 2008 Draft at the brewpub (downtown location). Poured a cloudy orange-yellow color with a white head. Aroma was of equal proportions banana and clove. Pretty typical nose, but there was also something that reminded me of fresh latex paint. Hmmm. Slightly chalky mouth feel. The paint-ish thing came out again in the flavor to some degree along with the expected banana/clove. So so.
