Commercial Description:
A truly unique beer combining the best brewing traditions of Belgium with the natural goodness of manuka leaves, fresh picked from the native forests of New Zealand. When Cpt. James Cook first landed in New Zealand over 200 years ago, he brewed a beer using the leaves of the manuka tree in a quest to protect the health of his crew from vitamin C deficiency. Little did he know that the indigenous Maori people had been using manuka for centuries for its health giving properties. In 1996 the Mussel Inn refined Cook's original recipe and has since been harvesting fresh manuka from the surrounding hills to produce a beer of unique flavour and quality. Today, the same beer is being brewed in Belgium using the best of its brewing techniques and the same manuka leaves from New Zealand.

Bottle. A sweet aroma, perfume, also some nut. The white foamy head is medium large with a normal duration. The body is orange. The taste is light yeasty, light sour and bitter. The body is dry and medium strong with a lively carbonation.

courtesy of Allen - pours a cloudy golden reddish beer with a very foamy beige head; nice lace; aroma of herbs, honey and caramel; some notes of lemon too; thick and creamy, sweet with a long aftertaste of caramel and herbs - fortunately, I didn’t drink the whole bottle because somehow this beer gave me a very fast allergy (my bottom lip has quickly swollen) ?!

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a finely bubbled beige head. Interesting aroma of spice and greenery. Medium body with somewhat sharpish carbonation. Flavor is light caramel sweet with a little spice and something like tea. Finishes mildly bitter; very mildly. Certainly different. Definitely drinkable.

(33cl bottle) Pours a clear yellow body with a medium white head. Aroma of citrus, wheat, smoked bacon (odd), caramel, and a herb that I am guessing is manuka. Flavor of wheat, yeast, citrus, coriander, and manuka.
