Strong sour aroma, lots of caramel malt and a big hit of a wine barrel, me thinks Cabernet Saugvinon. Monster fruit, plum and cherry flavors. Very winey and viscous. Definitely sour and tart, but moderately so, not as much as a Lambic. Caramel and chocolate malts finishing it out. Excellent. wetherel (1601), Encinitas, California, USA

Sweet, cheesy aroma with a malty undertone of praline. Medium to full-bodied with soft carbonation that dances lightly on my palate. Very tart with fruity sweetness that attempts to provide balance, but falls short... to my sour-loving taste buds’ delight. Finishes tart, tangy and then dries out a bit. An excellent Flanders red. Mildly carbonated body. Sour cherries, brown sugar and oak. I could have used more carbonation, but I suspect directly off the tap would have been better. Still excellent. Further reflections, plum and dark fruit. Very vinous. Wine barrel? puzzl (2619), New York, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 10, 2009 From a growler from Bellport shared by Peter. After first popping the growler this was a bit questionable but it has definitely opened up and is quite nice now. Mostly flat in pour but there is still a touch of carbonation in the body which works well. Dark ruby brown, actually a beautiful color. Aroma is very nutty, mildly tart, lots of foliage but actually really lacking in aroma. The taste is great, peanuty tart up front leading into a thick, vinegary La Folie like finish. Very drinkable, a really solid effort. Dickinsonbeer (3449), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2009 Updated: Mar 3, 2009Cask at EBF. Pours a deep dark woody brown with amber highlights and a thin diminishing head. Aroma is upfront with a sharp bright aceto, cherry pie, and other dark fruits mixed with a toasty and nutty lightly sweet malt backbone. Flavor is a bit muddled but there is some slight apple cider vinegar acetobacter- black cherry, earthy with some light oak, toasted malts, hints of burnt toast, dark caramel malts, fruity esters- raisin, and hints of green apple. Prickly acetic and sour finish. Pretty nice beer that will go well into souring other beers I think. beerbill (1950), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Growler filled at Bellport Cold Beer & Soda. Pours a hazy dark brown with a few reddish amber highlights when held against the sun with a thin, bubbled head that quickly and completely disappears. Pleasant aroma of cherry with some tart notes along with some mild oak. Very flavorful with lots of sour cherry, but the sourness is not overdone. Tart and bright would be my best description. Granny Smith apple, malt, and some earthy oak are also present in the flavor. Well rounded in the mouth. I have to agree with Paul, this will be a nice, solid base beer for Scott to use. hophead75 (1954), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2009 Cask at EBF Session 1. Brown in color with some red highlights. Taste has some sour cherry, mild to moderate vinegar, with some caramel and earth. Taste is lightly oaky, and has some mild funk, moderate acetic sourness, caramel/crystal malts. This was pretty good.
