Commercial Description:
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren't afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain's Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Growler at ’Cole’s Rare Beer Fest’, Buffalo, NY. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a small diminishing white head. Wonderful resiny hop aroma nicely backed by caramel malt and some fruit -- simple but awesome. Flavour of resiny piney hops along with malt and fruit again -- lovely and so delicious. Nice long bitter finish. Medium bodied. Simply put, this is a great DIPA!

Copper in color with little to no head. Strong hop aromas with some grass and citrus. Taste is weak at the start with a medium hop bitter finish.

On tap at High St grill winter fest. Nice amber color with a nice head. Aroma of hops. Grapefruit flavor and bitterness. This makes no bones about what it is. Very hoppy in your face.

From the growler pours lighter orange/gold with a soft white head. Big floral citrus hop nose, lots of resiny grapefruit character. Long sweet smooth citrus hop flavor, dry medium bitter finish. Very good, but I had this right after the Surly IIPA, so it had some tough competition.

Draught throughout NYC Wonderful aroma lots of hops and malt. Taste cashes the aroma’s check. Wonderful! the best DIPA out there by far. If I could only get this in OH! Kudos!

Growler from the brewery. Pours an almost clear amber with a medium to large sized creamy white head. Lots of lacing. Sweet citrusy hop aromas are abundant with a hint of malt. Medium body is laidback with a little bit of sweetness. Finish is a gentle grapefruit bitter that develops slowly. The alcohol on here is well hidden and while I might like a little bit more in the middle, quite a good double IPA.
