Commercial Description:
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren't afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain's Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

From a 500ml bottle into a pint glass. Pours with a ton of foamy white head which leaves lots of lacing. It has a beautiful golden hue to it. Smell is of stanky, skunky hops. Mouthfeel is sticky, sweet and medium bodied. Taste is very, very sweet with skunky hops predominating with a lot of honey and other sweetness. I’d like to have more carbonation to this. Overall, I wasn’t a big fan of it at all. WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY overrated in my opinion. Too sweet, not enough carbonation, too pricy and too much skunk to the hops. Sorry cap’n, time to let this one go down with the ship.

Malty sweet east coast DIPA. Meh. Lots of hops but not too bitter or complex, decent nose. Syrupy. A little undercarbed. Not a fan.

Bottle from hbmason -- thanks Tim! Amber pour with a huge foamy white head. It’s real sweet, with honey, brown sugar, and bready malt. Not really a hop bomb, but balanced and sweet. Taste is malty, with caramel notes right off the bat, lots of grapefruit, and a bit of heat on the end that flows into piney, grassy hops. It’s smooth and slick, a bit resiny, and has some tingly carbonation.

50cl bottle picked up at Big Z beverage. Pours a completely clear golden amber with a frothy, lacing, white head. Surprise! The aroma is all hops, grapefruit, pine, soap, some candy sweetness, lemons, a little perfume. Flavor is mostly lemon/orange rind, pine, a touch of soap, some dry crackery malts are the backbone. Finish is all bitterness, a bit dry. Good, not great.

Bottle from Cletus. Thanks man! Pours orange/yellow with a four finger clingy white head. Aromas of citrus/pine/floral. Fresh. Near full bodied with mildly creamy carbonation. Flavor is all those wonderful hops. Is there caramel? Who can tell. It’s a very hoppy, but not harsh, ale. S’wonderful.
