Commercial Description:
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren't afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain's Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Bottle, thanks to Bu11zeye....This was hand bottled, including an inkjet printed label, from what it looked like. Poured a light amber with minimal white head. Aroma was citris, almost grapefruit like, very nice. Flavor is a nice sweet malt with fruity notes and had a great nice balanced bitter....great use of hops. mouthfeel was very medium carbonation with a light mouthfeel. ...Very good beer, very refreshing.

bottled rating: all the aroma of the draft version reeking of citrus goodness, light bitterness, and some resins. beautiful head on the beer and it seems to be filtered a bit more than the draft offering. flavor packs a big hop cocktail, citrus rind, light grapefruit, mellow resins, and a nice smack of bitterness. it looses a bit of the chewiness but the hop flavors come across even cleaner. still right up there with the big boys and the flavor is perhaps a bit more intense.

growler from the brewery, poured a caramel amber in color with a one finger head. aroma has candy dipped hops, rich pine and citrus, grapefruit, and background malt. aroma is just so juicy and filed with goodness. flavor is definitely hop centered with some bitterness and resin. fruit comes out and mixes with the citrus that is put up against a hefty dose of malt. mouth feel is coating and has just enough carbonation to bring it all across. such a chewy brew but remains velvety right through. huge beer but it remains balanced allowing all the flavor to come through. on my favorites list.

Growler. I loved the aroma of this as I poured the growler for myself. The strong hop scent gave way to hints of malt and the first taste told me of the light malts that would eventually balance out in my glass. I found this to be super with pork lomein.

12 oz. hand bottle from Hophead 75. Thanks for trading with me. Poured out a hazy orange color, with a small tan head. Aromas are mostly hops. Piney, grapefruity hops. Flavors are mostly hops, with a sweet malt backbone. Medium mouthfeel, OK body. Alcohol is well hidden.

Poured strait from a growler that was from the brewery. Started out with a decent head but after a few pours it faded more and more each time. The color is a clear amber color with nothing suspended in it at all. The nose is very fruity and filled with other sweet smelling esters. As you drink it you can taste the rich light fruits in your mouth mainly raspberry and other light fruits followed by some hints of honey. The finish is very bitter which is nice considering it is hard to release all those sweet flavors with bitter hops.

Pours a one finger white head with a apple juice coloured, clear body. The nose is strong honey, berries, mild resin and grapefruit. The flavour is intensely sweet and hoppy, with notes of northwestern hops, honey sweetness, apple, grapefruit and raspberry, displaying hop flavour over hop bitterness, though the finish is quite bitter. The carbonation is extremely gentle and the texture is oily, but finishing dry.

Drank it with Juancho at the Ginger Man in NYC. Classic well crafted IIPA, with lots of citrus and a huge amount of hops.

On tap @ Gingerman Very nice, rich amber/copper color. Very strong aromas of resiny hops, well balanced throughout with not a hint of the 8% alcohol.... very drinkable, it sneaks up on you afte a couple imperial pints....
