Commercial Description:
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren't afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain's Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Bottle Pours a slightly clear amber with a good white head. The head is froathy and lasting. It laces very well. Has a nice hoppy aroma. Plenty of citrus, floral, and some sweet malts. Has a good carbonation and a swell mouthfeel. The flavor is well hopped, nice bitterness. Hides the alcohol with the bitterness. Has a medium to full body. The texture is slick. Has a solid finish with a manly aftertaste. Pretty good for my first Captain...standing with one leg up...

Bottles thanks to goldtwins. Pours with a clear golden yellow body and a large fluffy white head. Aroma is flowery and hoppy with some citrus backed by fresh baked baguette and caramel. Taste is hoppy, floral and decently bitter with a nice caramel zing. Lively carbonation, and moderate to light bodied for a IIPA. Good. Cured meats, salty hard cheese and this sound like a very good match.

Thanks to Tampa Group for sharing this one. Pours clear gold with white head. Nose is apricot, honey, peach, fruit, and pine. Flavor is the same with honey, malt, and some piny bitterness. Great IIPA with a medium body and lots of malt to it.

Bottle from the Patel’s rip and run. Ricky...keep em coming! Pours a sparkling deep golden. thin head with moderate lacing. Nose is of well meshed sweet malts and floral hops....WTF! Is this just a bit toned town form my last rate of Lagunitas little sumpin extra??? Well all in all they are similar but this body is a fair bit extended in duration, but the nose is not as strong. Bert... back at cha.

Pint bottle by way of j12601. Pours clear dark gold with a 2 finger billowy off-white head that leaves nice lacing. The nose is caramel, citrus and toffee. The taste is caramel malt, oranges, tart citrus and light pine. Medium bodied. Good IIPA. Thanks Jay!

Hooked up in a trade with Cletus. Told him I wanted some nice North East beers and that is exactly what I got. Nice fluffy head on this sucker. It doesn’t fade away quickly at all. A darker gold translucent appreance. Ahh... a lovely citrus hop aroma that is nice and aromatic. Very hoppy beer I must say. Smells like someone took a grapefruit and dropped the juice right in my beer! A nice crisp pungent aroma. Nice clean hoppy aroma. Wow, a nice clean hop taste. This thing has a wonderful citrus flavor, a very nice beer. The citrus flavor is so nice, and not overpowering, and yet you are left with a nice bittering hop flavor. This beer is fantastic, and I thank Mr. Cletus for sending me this bottle. Overall, doesn’t look like much, but this thing is great.

Clear gold. Big, full hop aroma. Flavor is like sweet hops juice, citrus, a little pine, and flowers. The big aroma and flavor don’t match up with the thin palate, but this is really good anyway.

Hoppy citrus aroma. Clear orange color with a medium white head. Tangy bitter beginning that develops a citrus hop flavor at the end.
