Commercial Description:
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren't afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain's Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Very cool shaped bottle. Pours orange. Nose is big citrus, dank hops, sticky pine, resiny and sweet caramel. Flavor is big bitterness, pineapple, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest and a nice balance of caramel malt. Lingering bitterness.

Bottle. Pours pale amber with a fluffy white head which sticks around. Aroma is pine trees and hops. Flavor is pine trees and hops, with a slight touch of sweet malt and a very slight grapefruit in the finish. Tingly and palate numbing. Very good overall.

A Mes rate. Cask at GBBF.
Petrol blonde with a thin white head. Huge lychee, very tropical, some sweetish malt in the background and all round fruity as hell. Big bad bitter finish that is, at the same time, gloriously juicy. Great stuff.

Cask at GBBF. Golden with a small white head. Intense hoppy aroma with pine, grapefruit and peach. Big and sweet malty flavour with fruity hops and medium bitterness.

Bottle - thanks beerbaron420. Pours a pure golden color with a finger of creamy, off-white head. Sticky lacing forms instantly. The nose is very sweet and fruity. I immediately thought apple juice. Further sniffing reveals a heavy citrus presence, pineapple and grapefruit. Sweet and sticky. A wonderful mouthful, silky smooth and rich. More grapefruit and citrus along with a lingering floral hop sensation. Some underlying maltiness, but definitely in the background. So smooth and well balanced. This is some wonderful stuff!

Golden colored, thin head. This was my favorite beer of the night, for the Skyview tasting. Pepper, pine, citrus, with a dry finish. I could smell this all day. Awesomeness! Looking forward to trying other Captain Lawrence beers in the future.

This beer is growing on me. This is the second bottle that I’ve sampled and it really seems to be a laid back, charming, unapologetic one trick pony. Smells really bitter and floral and that’s exactly what comes through in the taste as well. Whatcha got here is a sweet and earthy flower petal sandwich with a load of hop resin slaw. At the finish I get something bitter, spicy and earthy like horseradish root or something, no joke. Mouthfeel is thin in body but coating. Reminds me much more of an IPA than a double but a nice brew. Thanks Captain Lawrence. 2009 16 oz.
