Commercial Description:
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren't afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain's Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Bottle. Poured a golden color with a nice big white head. Aroma is nice and fresh with tons of hops that are quite balanced with malt sweetness. Taste is also very fresh and enjoyable with tons of hops and sweet malt. Hints of oak and caramel stand out at the end. Very good

Bottle. Golden orange with large foamy white head. Aroma is floral with whiskey, grass and citrus. Flavors of caramel, spice, grass, and pine. Full mouthfeel. Biggish body. English style on steroids.

50cl bottle picked up at Big Z beverage. Pours a completely clear golden amber with a frothy, lacing, white head. Surprise! The aroma is all hops, grapefruit, pine, soap, some candy sweetness, lemons, a little perfume. Flavor is mostly lemon/orange rind, pine, a touch of soap, some dry crackery malts are the backbone. Finish is all bitterness, a bit dry. Good, not great.

Bottle from Cletus. Thanks man! Pours orange/yellow with a four finger clingy white head. Aromas of citrus/pine/floral. Fresh. Near full bodied with mildly creamy carbonation. Flavor is all those wonderful hops. Is there caramel? Who can tell. It’s a very hoppy, but not harsh, ale. S’wonderful.

Nice piney and resinous aroma. Pours a light orange, almost yellow. Nice malt backbone to it. Bit of alcohol bite to it as well. Not a West Coast DIPA but nice and hearty.

Outstanding aroma indicative of floral hops with hints of pine and spruce. Aroma is very strong and inciting as the beer is poured. Little or no head. Trace amounts of lacing on the glass. Color is of a transparent amber. This beer accomplishes what is necessary for a complete well rounded double IPA.

Bottle: This one pours a clear, golden yellow color. There was a bit of a white head to it, that dropped off fairly quickly and left minimal lacing. The aroma is pretty much all hops. Mainly grapefruit, with a hint of pine in the background. A bit light for an Imperial IPA. The taste is somewhat bitter, with some malts in the background. Medium bodied. I would classify this as an IPA, not an Imperial/Double IPA. Good when considered against other IPA’s, but it definitely pales when compared against other DIPA’s.
