Some sudsy wet patches of lace are left behind. The aroma shows notes of espresso, roasty coffee, and some dark chocolate. The flavor follows suit with the roasty espresso blended nicely with the bittersweet chocolate and caramel malts. Some earthy hops lend bitterness along with some lactose for creaminess. Medium bodied and smooth and easy drinking, but the body is a touch thin and use some more there. Soem espresso roast lingers for awhile on the finish. I got the last of the growler, so I am sure the first pours were better. Still a really nice and flavorful stout. Beerlando (2351), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 20, 2009 Growler, courtesy dchmela. Pours a deep, dark mahogany color with a small, frothy, tan colored head. A sudsy wash leaves behind wet arches and mico-spot lace. The aroma is rich and roasty, but well balanced. Big espresso notes, bitter dark chocolate, and hints of earthen hops are softened by rich caramel and traces of creamy lactose. The nose is almost mouth watering. Flavors show more of the same, rich burnt malts and roasty espresso working nicely with bittersweet chocolate, dark caramel, and an earthy hop kick. Lactose again lends a soft creaminess. Smooth and easy drinking, there could be a little more substance to the mouthfeel. Dry roast lingers on the palate for a good while. Very nice little session stout here. I could drink this all day long. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA

Charred Espresso and roasted coffee in the smell is right up front, smells like a coffee drink from Starbucks. Black as hell body. Light sweetness in the chocolate. zathrus13 (1313), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and a touch of vanilla. Flavor is coffee and roasted malt, along with some vanilla and bits of semi-sweet chocolate. Body is a little thin, but this isn’t an impy stout after all. Carbonation is low, but it works well for this one. Nice! hopscotch (5528), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2009 Growler… Pours very dark with ruby highlights around the edges of the glass and a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent, tight, creamy retention. The nose is of espresso, chocolate, vanilla and dark-roasted nuts. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The flavor is of chocolate and robust espresso with only a rumor of acidity. Well-balanced, overall. Finishes crisp and roasted. Kudos to dchmela for providing the sample! Smells like iced coffee for sure, with hints of chocolate and vanilla. A touch of spiciness amid the coffee/chocolate flavors. Body tends towards thin. hopdog (5612), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Sampled from Growler. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of roast, coffee, and some chocolate. Tastes of coffee, roast, vanilla, and chocolate. I liked the coffee in the tastes. Somewhat thin body. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Tap at Ginger Man. Dark brown black beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is loaded with sweet espresso aroma. Loads of rich coffee and a light berryish fruitiness. There is a nice soft malty sweetness behind that as well. Soft licorice and a faint herbal character. Fairly nice earthy bitterness with a soft roastiness. Loads of rich espresso flavour that is very gently extracted. Not tannic or vegetal at all. Low bitterness and lingering coffee flavour on the back. Softly sweet through the middle with a little bit of sticky sweetness. I like it.
