Black color. It has the expected aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Medium body, strong roasted malt flavor, and the same gives also some sourness. Strong bitterness. Not my kind.

Sampled from Growler. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of roast, coffee, and some chocolate. Tastes of coffee, roast, vanilla, and chocolate. I liked the coffee in the tastes. Somewhat thin body.

Growler… Pours very dark with ruby highlights around the edges of the glass and a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent, tight, creamy retention. The nose is of espresso, chocolate, vanilla and dark-roasted nuts. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The flavor is of chocolate and robust espresso with only a rumor of acidity. Well-balanced, overall. Finishes crisp and roasted. Kudos to dchmela for providing the sample!

Draught sample at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of complimentary espresso beans, roasted malt, chocolate. Tastes chocolatey with a nice compliment of coffee beans on the finish,

Tap at Ginger Man. Dark brown black beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is loaded with sweet espresso aroma. Loads of rich coffee and a light berryish fruitiness. There is a nice soft malty sweetness behind that as well. Soft licorice and a faint herbal character. Fairly nice earthy bitterness with a soft roastiness. Loads of rich espresso flavour that is very gently extracted. Not tannic or vegetal at all. Low bitterness and lingering coffee flavour on the back. Softly sweet through the middle with a little bit of sticky sweetness. I like it.

DLD 2009, thanks to pantanap: It poured a dark brown, nearly black, with a scrawny tan head. The aroma had some weak coffee, roasted malt, dark toffee/caramel, and a hint of chocolate. Thin. The chocolate was slightly more pronounced in the flavor and a nutty bitterness appeared near the end. Okay.

Many thanks to Kan for sharing the growler at DLD! Poured very deep brown with a fine cap of beige head. The aroma picked up heavy coffee and darker chocolates, giving a very desserty feel to it.. loved it! The flavor was tasty as well with more of the same.. lots of well-roasted coffee and lesser dark chocolate (which also provided a moderate level of bitterness).. this was coffee-centric, but well-balanced. Medium-plus bodied with rolling carbonation on the palate.. a little coffee sourness on the back.. great stuff!

Draft at CL. Pours a black body with a tan head. Big coffee nose, lightly burnt coffee, hints of espresso and licorice. Chocolate malt, lightly roasted coffee, with a lush licorice bitter roast finish.
