Commercial Description:
American Sour Ale. This was a fun one to make. We took some of our barrel aged sour golden ale and added a bunch of fresh picked local peaches and let the barrels ripen. The flavors are earthy, fruity and of course...SOUR. Enjoy this one on a hot summer day with a ripe juicy peach in hand. From the Captain’s cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy!

Courtesy dchmela. Hazy yellow gold, white carbonation. Way sour in the nose, a bit heavy on the acetic, with some funk and sourness, also. Peach just shows as a general light colored fruitiness. Mild woodsy notes. Medium body, mildly juicy, balanced, dry on the end. A bit too heavy on the acetic for me, but a solid sour beer.

Courtesy of fogdog. Pours hazy, sandy, opaque apricot gold with white head. The aroma is full with crushed aspirin tartness, lemon like acidity and then light amounts of grains, malts and funk. At the end of each draw I get apricot and peach coming to the surface. The taste begins tart and then moves into brief moments of malts and grains. By midway and then toward the finish flashes of sweet apricot and peach peak through the modest curtain of tartness. It gets a bit dry into the finish with a mild level of tartness creating a refreshing sensation. Very tasty sour ale that doesn’t allow the tartness to run amuck and kill off the rest of the flavors.

Pours cloudy peach with a ring of a white head. Full nose of tart peaches and wood with some sour funk. The flavor is an awesome peach front ushered out by a tartness and a light acetone influence, which gives way to an excellent signature Captain Lawrence oaky lasting finish.

Pale golden pour. The nose is initially very musty with lots of minty and slightly oxidized character. There is a lot of menthol and wintergreen character through the middle of the palate. The tartness has picked up quite a bit as this has aged and it’s rough edges have begun to smooth out. As it warms up a wild funkiness sort of pops up from the back. It’s significantly improved.

Golden pour, with a small white head. Awesome flavor and aroma, sweet peach aroma, that leads into a tart fruity aroma that isn’t sweet, and CL’s normal bretty finish. Could sniff or sip this all night... wish I had more!

Bottle. Thanks Paul. Pours cloudy glowing light orange with a small film of white lace. Nose of wood, vinegar, peach, apricot. Flavor is sharply sour initially finishing with a little sweetness from the fruit and some lemon juice like acidity. This stuff is really sour and " extreme" which I like, but still it’s missing something. Feels a little empty at the end and disjointed throughout. Will have to sample this again some time down the the road.
