Commercial Description:
American Sour Ale. This was a fun one to make. We took some of our barrel aged sour golden ale and added a bunch of fresh picked local peaches and let the barrels ripen. The flavors are earthy, fruity and of course...SOUR. Enjoy this one on a hot summer day with a ripe juicy peach in hand. From the Captain’s cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy!

At the release. Nice gold color, with light peaches and citrus on the nose. Wow is this sour! Not fruity as much as it is sour, the acidity is amazing. One of the most unique and best sours i’ve had.

Golden pour, with a small white head. Awesome flavor and aroma, sweet peach aroma, that leads into a tart fruity aroma that isn’t sweet, and CL’s normal bretty finish. Could sniff or sip this all night... wish I had more!

Pours cloudy peach with a ring of a white head. Full nose of tart peaches and wood with some sour funk. The flavor is an awesome peach front ushered out by a tartness and a light acetone influence, which gives way to an excellent signature Captain Lawrence oaky lasting finish.

12.7 oz bottle courtesy of either TheEpeeist, LilBeerDoctor, or puzzl. Thanks, guys! Managed to grab 4 of these as I was really excited for it’s release. My 1st of the 4 CL sours (With all 4 waiting in the cellar). Pours a well hazed golden straw, a tinge of sunshine/darker hue to it, a very small bubbly carbonation driven white head to it that dies to a film, becomes near nonexistent. As I drink this a bright white head foams at the edges, laces better than expected. Aromas are grains, lemon citrus, a touch of peach sourness and sweetness, brettanomyces, decent oak and funkiness, with barnyard, cheese, and fairly good acidity. Exciting! Initial is medium bodied, combining acidity, sourness, lemon and wild yeasts, with some more subtle but still sour peaches en masse. Grainy malts, oak, a faint soothing vanilla, brettanomyces and funk come in decent amounts, however the fruity qualities and sour acidity seem to take the lead. Very peachy as I get further into the brew, some smoothing subtle cheesy funkiness instead of strong barnyard. Very sour, with some very dry elements complimenting well. The peaches win it over for me (Then again, I’ve never had FouFoune.. seems like I need to though). Solid, with a subtle sweetness and decent sourness sticking to the palate and aftertaste and the funkiness not being overwhelming, instead relying on acidity, fruitiness, and a nice balance in my book. Very enjoyable.

Where the Wild Beers Are @ The Gate 8/30/09. Very pale hazy with head. Strong funky lemon pixie stix hay and horseballs aroma. Grapefruit hay barnyard horseballs with mild pineapple sweetness and dry finish. Effervescent. I though it was excellent, but I’m not very discriminating with sours yet, I guess.

Yet another great sour from CL, super, super sour. surprised, not too much peach, acidy, tart and bright, nice carbonation, very small to nothing head, great taste towards the back of the mouth, delicious, cloudy yet crisp, good job Scott!

rating from bottle and sample at the brewery. Hazy blonde in color with active carbonation but a quick receding head. Aroma of sour peaches, some light wood, funk/barnyard. Taste is quite acidic, with light peach/lemon rind, and some nice earthy funk. Not much malt character here- it’s all been eaten away- light medium body- the sourness gets nice and puckering in the finish. As I always tend to like assertive, but yet well done examples of a style, I really enjoyed this one.
