Some aroma of bubble gum and toffee, a bit of ashen earthiness. Flavor is rather dry and heavy on belgian yeast esters with strong notes of coriander, dark fruit, and of course, ginger. The ginger makes this very dry, perhaps a bit too much so. Toffee takes dominance in the finish, overshadowing the spices. Somewhat unrefined and although drinkable far from memorable. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2009 On tap at The Ginger Man, their house ale. Dark yellow with white head and lace. Dry beverage, some ginger in front. Above average mouthfeel. As good as the style normally is, though I do not usually go in for ginger eaglefan538 (2399), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 23, 2009 On draft at the Ginger Man, Norwalk. I couldn’t resist this, since I enjoy CL and was actually in the Ginger Man itself (but I don’t like ginger in my beers normally). The pour was orange in color with an average looking head, slightly peachy and off-white. Lacing was ok all the way down, nothing spectacular. The aroma was malty, fruity with the obvious ginger mixed in. The flavor exceeded my expectations, probably the best approach to ginger brewing I’ve come across, done nicely, definitely well done if you like ginger. I enjoyed this, the fruity Belgian-like base malts, some yeast, and then the spicey clovey and gingery finish. I would order it again, but probably not more than one in a sitting. Nice job, CL. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Draft at GM. Pours a red amber body with an off white lacing. Lots of ginger and almost cinnamon character. A light malt character with some earthy character. Pretty straight forward. CL 22 of 22, NICE! GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Draft at Ginger Man NYC. Poured a clear medium orange color with a thin off white head. Pleasant aroma of clove and subdued baking spices. Medium bodied with carbonation on the lower end of the spectrum. The flavors followed the aromas; clove, baking spices, and toffee. Very nice and easy to drink. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 18, 2009 Draught sample at the Greenwich, CT location. They insisted there was nothing Belgian about this, but they were wrong. Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells of ginger, dry malt, some peppery splashes. Tastes sweet and malty with some floral notes and a nice ginger bite on the finish. Maltajo (109), TARRYTOWN, New York, USA
