| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Looks like, well, slightly hazy apple juice with a small soapy head that is continually fed by a steady stream of bubbles from the bottom of the glass. The head remains a remnant throughout leaving only a trace of lacing.
The smell is dominated by the apple brandy and caramel malts. As someone mentioned before, it does smell a little like caramel apples. I only got a hint of the brett but not a lot.
The taste has a bigger oak presence than I got in the nose but there is still tons of apples which lay on top of the big caramel malt base. I don’t get a lot of the typical Belgian tripel qualities in this one but that’s not necessarily bad.
The mouthfeel is highly carbonated with a sticky sweet palate that fades into a slight tart tinge on the tongue in the finish.
This is a very drinkable brew that doesn’t stick too close to traditional tripel expectations. Very drinkable. yobdoog (1478), Woodridge NY, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 19, 2008 I have had this a few times and the fact that I dreamed about how good it was last night made we want to rate it. From recent bottle had shared at BCTC it was much smoother than it was fresh. Not so much heat from the alcohol. A lot of nice fruit and apply wood. Some spice from an almost fresh cider. Rich brandy body. Very warming still but very good. One more bottle being saved for a later date incase I forget. Rciesla (3750), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 16, 2008 Bottle i guess about 6 months old. Ah finally got my hand on this one. Pours a mahogany body with a light head that dies fast. Nice apple wood aroma and flavor, boozy and i love it in this case. Cider, vanilla, and then that warming thats hardly acidic. I enjoyed this muchly. Naven (876), Poway, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Bottle. Holy hell, this was strong. Smelled amazing, like Martinelli’s Apple Cider. Flavor was simply too boozy. Strong, harsh, Brandy notes really spoil this one for me. It’s like a shot of Brandy. About a year of aging would do this wonders. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Thanks again, Naven. This smells like apple juice a little bit. The taste isn’t like apples. It’s overpowering with booze. Which is fine, I loves me some boozy beer. I’ve heard tell that aging will do this well. Since I’m unable to age beers more than a couple days after they come through my door, I’ll never know unless someone brings me an aged one in a few years, in which, with all this talk of economic depression, will be worth it’s weight in Golden Delicious apples. presario (2996), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 7, 2008 Dark gold apple cider look with some bubbles. Aroma of hops, apples and alcohol. Big alcohol flavour overpowers the Tripel. Apple residue in the finish and aftertaste. I really like the Extra Gold but the beauty is lost in the barrel. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 26, 2008 First had this one on its release date at the brewery and it was quite hot - lets see what some time has done. Golden color with a larger, but diminishing white head. Aroma is pure xtra gold with a good deal of wood and slight booze influence. Flavor has some nice apple and sugar with a hefty dose of wood and vanilla. Smooth on the palate. I probably would still take the xtra gold over this, but I like it now and see it getting better over the next year or so. Unique and tasty!
