fiulijn (5860), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jan 11, 2007 Draught at Hop Devil, NYC Blond color. Aroma of malt, flowery. Smooth flavor, with some malt and honey, light peanuts. Rastacouere (5270), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 17, 2008 Clear golden yellow. Gentle white head, fully lasting. A clean and very herbal belgian ale. Strawy maltiness meets a fine complement in the shape of the multi-layered herbal aromatics. Soft noble hops, grassy, spicy. Dry on the palate. Grainy malt profile, but blending nicely with the yeast’s breadiness. All in cleanliness. Not the most characterful offering of its kind, but drinkable and tasty. CaptainCougar (4636), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at Fette Sau on 9/14/07: Pours a transparent pale golden with a well-lacing, wispy white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity pale malt with a hint of orange peel and Belgian yeast. Body starts with nice sweetness and some tart orange and coriander citrus balance toward a bready, well-balanced sweet finish. A very nice, true to style brew. hopdog (4564), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2007 Sample from Growler courtesy of egadzis (thanks for this want list beer!). Poured a lighter and clear yellow color with a small sized white head. Aromas of fruitiness, bananas, and light spices. Tastes of fruitiness, bready, citrus, and light spices. Lighter and ’refreshing’. MartinT (4330), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2007 Updated: Dec 18, 2007My Bottom Line:
Herbal hops, hay-like maltiness and milky spiciness all dance within the quenching body, offering enough complexity to keep the tastebuds interested, and enough leniency to work itself into a long session.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the pale yellow (rather witbier like, I must add).
-The spicy, piney hop blend is quite alluring.
-The prickly, tiny bubbles and Belgian yeast profile (tropical fruit!) show the beer’s lineage quite efficiently.
-That grassy bitter finish is somewhat reminiscent of absinth.
-This middle world between Pilsner, Belgian Ale, and Witbier can surely be a delicious introductory beer for neophytes.
On tap at Tap NY and at the brewery tap room.
