Mahogany in color, with glints of chestnut at the edges, the body is topped with a swirly film and a minimal, micro-bubble edge. Tiny, scattered spots of lacing mark the glass. The aroma is rich and complex. Semi-sweet cocoa and scorched caramel lay the malty groundwork, while smoked dark fruits, red berries, vanilla, toasted oak, and a kiss of sour mash bourbon finish things off. Simply put, this brew smells divine. Flavors are similar, dark fruits asserting themselves a bit more, perhaps. Fig comes to the forefront, accompanied by the cocoa and caramel, while the berries take a turn towards sour. Vanilla and Kentucky bourbon are subtly infused throughout. Light carbonation makes for a silky, velvety body that drinks incredibly easily for a brew of this stature. This is an outstanding beer, and one that I surely need to stock up on for the future. blklab2007 (959), Connecticut, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 13, 2008 Updated: Apr 25, 2009bottle batch three poured a dark brown in color with a thin ring of head clinging to the glass. aroma has dark ripened fruit, oak, a touch of chocolate malt, light underlying berry, vanilla, mild sweetness, and some alcohol. really rich and complex. mouth feel is medium with a nice coating of the tongue. barrel wood jumps right out, rich dark fruit, raisins, and vanilla again. the berries grew in flavor adding richness and complexity and some vinous character. chocolate, coffee, and toffee creep into the picture keeping the sweetness in check. alcohol is warming and somewhat noticeable and the finish lingers on the tongue for some time. very rich and interesting with many different flavors adding depth and interest. very well done. bdigital (586), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Batch 2...Dark maroon color with a wispy tan halo of a head, looks very red wine like. Nose is loads of berries, peat, vanilla, oak, chocolate and some subtle vinous notes. Medium light body starts dry, turns slightly sweet and finishes dry...beautiful. Flavor has notes of vanilla, bourbon, berries and belgian candied sugar. Very different type of brew, unlike anything I have had and a great change of pace. GodOfThunder (864), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2008 Thanks to Beerlando! Pours a dark brown with a nice woody dark fruit smell. The dark fruits are the predominant flavor, with just enough vanilla and spices to keep things interesting. doubleo (1104), San Diego, California, USA

Batch 2
Poured into a tulip a very nice dark brown color, very nice carbonation, huge thick creamy tannish two-finger head, lots of nice thick creamy sticky lacing follows. The nose is malty, nice touch of vanilla, bourbon, figs, raisins, plums, and some caramel notes. The taste is sweet, malty, very nice touch of vanilla/bourbon, dark fruits/caramel. Full body, the alcohol is hidden very well with this brew. Very drinkable, this is my first CL brew, and hopefully not my last. This BSDA is very different then any other I’ve had in the past, the Bourbon Barrel Aged and stout like taste is AWESOME! Thanks Joe!

Pours with a small, foamy, brown head and a nearly black, dark brown body. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, berries, bourbon (vanilla, oak and alcohol), a bit of coffee roast, and a vinous note. Taste is strong with berries, caramel, coffee in the finish and burboun notes to round it out. Sort of reminds me of a baby version of angel’s share (in the way that the barrel influnces this dark roasted beer). Long duration of 40-45 seconds. Instantly warming on the palate. Syrupy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Great brew! emerica56 (581), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Updated: Aug 29, 2009What an amazing American strong ale. pours a dark nut brown with a thin tan head and leaves some nice streaks along the sides of the glass. the nose is nice and fruity with a bunch of esters popping in your nostrils. The flavor is full of fruit, like raisin, and prune mixed with a chocolate vanilla blend finished with a nice bitter spice. The impression that it left on the palate is amazing but the carbonation is a little low. Overall it is an awesome brew and great to sip on.
