Commercial Description:
This is a truly unique brew, combining some unusual elements to create a powerful, yet flavorful brew. I brewed a similar beer to this one back in 1998, while I was home brewing out in California. Only this time around I decided to age it in bourbon barrels to add a new element to the already rich sensory profile. The combination of dark malt, elderberries and bourbon barrels makes for an interesting tasting experience. This is a sippin’ beer, so sit back by the fire and enjoy.

bottle. Batch 1. This is one stronnnng beer. Very strong alcohol flavor. No elderberry noted here, just a ton of oak and bourbon. I like this beer, but 750ml’s of it may be too much.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Aroma is sweet malty bourbon, woodiness, and some fruit. Almost get a wine like character in this dark ale, abv comes through but not like 12% a great blend ill have to have this again soon, im going to need a bigger sample.

750ml bottle courtesy of eaglefan538. 10/07. Sweet molasas and bourbon alcohol aroma. Black body with tan head and head hand the rice kripees snap krale pop going on. Flavor was very alcoholic with bourbon giving the body a warming effect. Sweet molasas licorice and a dry coco flavor mixed together made this a very complexing brew. Wow another good brew by CL.

Pours a dark brown with a slight tan head that falls to nothing. Nose is nice and spicy. Definite barrel aging character here. Can seriously grab it on the flavor as well. I have no idea, but it’s bourbon barrels? Nice smooth flavor from it, but robust enough to keep it at a very interesting level. Nice level of spice. Am I getting some coffee on there? Yes, I think I am. Feel has a good carbonation and the liquid is nice too. This is good. Really an amazing piece of work.

Thanks to bluemeow76 for bringing a bottle home from a trip (Batch #002). The beer pours brownish black with a medium and creamy beige head that has good staying power. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, cherries and dark malt. Rich, smooth body with an interesting vinous/woody character. Flavors of dark fruits, earthy malt, bittersweet chocolate and an undercurrent of alcohol. The finish is woody with a bourbon-soaked cherry aftertaste. Very good overall.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Matthew. Pours an burgundy-black color with a big tan head that lasts along time. The nose has a bit of berry, some whiskey, coffee and musty dust. The flavor is bold and complex with mixed berries, dark roasted malts, vanilla, and bourbon whiskey. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is long with lingering bourbon whiskey. Overall: This is an impressive big beer. Thanks a million matthew.

Thanks miketd: Pours a mahogany with amber highlights. Aroma: Hellooooo bourbon! Behind that, aroma of tobacco, muted vanilla, and some raisin. Dark malt, warm finish; definitely a sipper.
