Commercial Description:
This is a truly unique brew, combining some unusual elements to create a powerful, yet flavorful brew. I brewed a similar beer to this one back in 1998, while I was home brewing out in California. Only this time around I decided to age it in bourbon barrels to add a new element to the already rich sensory profile. The combination of dark malt, elderberries and bourbon barrels makes for an interesting tasting experience. This is a sippin’ beer, so sit back by the fire and enjoy.

bottle....appearance: dark toffee brown pour, off-white sediment, and a medium sized tan head to go with it....aroma: dark fruit, caramel, molasses, hint of bourbon and vanilla.....taste: very malty, chocolaate, dark fruit, some vinous characteristics with the bourbon playing a subordinant role. medium bodies and the carbonation level was just right.....very tasty and can’t wait to try the ’07 batch if i’m able to get my hands on some.

Small, but good (lacy) dark beige head, irregular; over (once more) fully black beer. Ink, wood, charcoal, alcohol in the nose. Ink is the only thing from the nose, that lives on in the taste. For the rest, this is an unbelievable "thinnish" "schraal" beer, at least compared to its astronomical ABV. Retronasal coffee milk & fusels. Creamy texture at first, then in the end, it gets wry short of revolting. There’s something awkward about this beer(s). With two tasters we suspect one thing - WHAT IS IT WITH THE BREWING LIQUOR, NO ADJUSTING FROM pH 8+? Another one thanks to puzzl

Dark brown, dark tan head...smells of dark fruits, sugar, alcohol and bourbon...thick yet silky body...sweet and malty, almost a saltiness quality to it...vanilla dipped in alcohol and blended with bourbon, fruit and rich malt...well balanced with a lasting finish...very warming to the tummy...and the rest of me...some sediment in the glass...numbingly good!

750 ml bottle; Nose of dark fruit and oaky bourbon; hazy dark brown with a small beige head; Flavor was very oaky, a small complementing amount of bourbon, berries, and caramel; very smooth (not stormy)!

Seper rich dark color with minimal head if any. Aroma very strong of oak, bourbon, vanilla and molasses. A little hard fruit and dark chocolate accents. Taste is very strong. Warms you up quite nicely. Sherry, port, bourbon characters here. Has little bitterness balanced with sweet syrupy malts and chocolate covered dates. Very nice warmer for sure.
