| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Tap at the Sunswick. Poured a dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head.the nose was sweet with a hint of alcohol, and some roasted notes. First sip I just said "wow", as there was robust flavor everywhere. Mouthful was big and creamy. This is definitely a warmer. Big malts, and chocolate were prevalent. The barrel aging was noticeable too, having not read about it, I thought maybe it had been aged in rum barrels, but clearly I am wrong on that. I really liked this, and I bet I will really love it if I can hold a bottle or two till next winter, or longer. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

batch 2 bottle shared with the phoenix crew...
pours very dark brown with a dense though short lived khaki colored head.
the aroma is full of bourbon barrel woodiness... it’s very smooth and pleasant. also noted are molasses, chocolate, caramelized sugar, vanilla, eucalyptus and mint. the palate is malty and sweet yet the sugar level is not an issue. lots of roasty malt in the flavor mixes with cocoa, dark raisins, fruity sourness, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla oakiness and just enough bourbon to make a difference. there’s a mild bitterness on an otherwise smooth finish. as it warms it picks up a slight sourness which makes it more well balanced than it already was. medium body with a luscious mouth feel.
insane... intoxicatingly rich and complex yet so easy to drink!

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 4, 2009 On tap @ the brewery. Dark brown with lasting ring and lace. Maple syrup dark fruit wood smoke bourbon aroma. Chocolate dark fruit wood bourbon with mild woodsy bitter finish. Medium-full body. Incredibly complex but everything fits tiogether well. Bourbon and alcohol are well blended in and not predominant. Fruit is kept in check. Yum. dchmela (1430), Orlando, Florida, USA

Very distinct aroma of the elderberries and the bourbon, very nice. Malt driven body with a holiday spice, bourbon, vanilla, orange peel and brown sugar taste. Very complex and a great winter warmer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2008 750ml (batch 1) from someone I can’t remember. Thanks to whomever sent this my way! Surprisingly lively pour, dark and heavily carbonated. The nose is very strong with bourbon everywhere, with a faintly detectable fruitiness in there for good measure. Mouthfeel is full, a bit prickly, finishes slick. Huge notes of vanilla and bourbon tend to crowd out the other flavors that are there, particularly the berry. Good enough for what it is and I’d be interested to try batch 2. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
