Commercial Description:
This is a truly unique brew, combining some unusual elements to create a powerful, yet flavorful brew. I brewed a similar beer to this one back in 1998, while I was home brewing out in California. Only this time around I decided to age it in bourbon barrels to add a new element to the already rich sensory profile. The combination of dark malt, elderberries and bourbon barrels makes for an interesting tasting experience. This is a sippin’ beer, so sit back by the fire and enjoy.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown shine under a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of brown sugar and prunes as well as hints of bourbon. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and oranges and again a light touch of bourbon. The alcohol is felt on the sides of the tongue.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Pours completely dark brown and almost opaque, there’s a warm, reddish glow underneath with a light brown head. Distinct and lovely aroma of bourbon and dried fruit. Rather full-bodied with plenty of sweet, roasted malt, vanilla and oak accents. The bourbon really shines all through also flashing quite some alcohol in the finish. Quite interesting. 100807

Bottled, thanks jjpm74! Very dark brown, beige creamy head. Oaky nose with an interesting touch of elderflowers. Sweet and softly malty with roasty malt and molasses. Bourbon brings flavour and warnming alcohol. The bitterness is low. Big, yet well balanced, although the sweetness is a bit much. Really good!

From 75 cL bottle. Pours very deep brown with two finger tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, slight earthy and yeasty. Flavour is malty, chocolate, bitter/sour to slight citric flavour blending with the a bourbon flavour of the alcohol. Thick alcohol mouthfeel. Strangely spicy and liqourice in the finish. I did not sense elderberries at all.

Batch 002
Slightly lighter dark brown than the 001. The aroma is boozy still but a little more pronounced to the bourbon. Soft chocolate and toffee come together well. Soft body with a delectable brown sugar note. Seems to surrender some complexity to achieve a more pleasurable character, but a nice brew. 7 3 6 3 14 = 3.3

Batch 001
Very dark brown with a thick head. Very pretty beer. Boozy, woody nose with molasses accents and burnt raisin notes, and a hint of chocolate chip cookie dough. Boozy and harsh on the tongue, with some chocolate and toffee undertones. Gets woody and very dry in the finish. 7 4 7 4 14 = 3.6
