Commercial Description:
One of the first beers I brewed after moving out to California to begin my brewing education was a Pale Ale. This version is a true testament to the influences the Wild West had on my early brewing. My Pale Ale is loaded with US-grown Cascade, Crystal, and Columbus hops, so be sure to take a good sniff to enjoy their robust aromas before taking your first sip. Sensory Profile: An aromatic beer with notes of citrus, pine, a noticeable bitterness, and a touch of malty backbone to help balance it out. Food Pairing: Foods with a spicy kick are a great match, as the bitterness of the hops will help to cool the palate before your next bite. Mexican food and pizza are natural matches.

It’s the hint of citrus that makes this pale ale a real nice treat. I drank one with a pasta dish, and it was super.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark red/brown with some white head. Aroma of floral hops. Flavor of floral and some citrus hops, bitterness. Tasty. One of the better pale ales I’ve had.

On tap at the brewery. Smells like a grassy meadow with shrubbery. Somehow I missed all the citrus. The rest of the hop presence just seemed bitter to me. After the first few sips (which did seem pretty divine), this bitterness also became a little rough around the edges when blended with the malt. Whether there was too much bitterness, not enough smooth maltiness, I’m not sure, just seemed a tad short of that perfectly quaffable pale ale. I’m of course splitting hairs to an extent here with my 3.6; a very good beer.

Clear nutty brown color, small white head, lace. Nutty, hoppy aroma. Also flavor is quite similar: aromatic and nutty hops dominate the flavor. Starts a bit watery, then through pale malts it goes to hoppy finish. A ok.
