Commercial Description:
One of the first beers I brewed after moving out to California to begin my brewing education was a Pale Ale. This version is a true testament to the influences the Wild West had on my early brewing. My Pale Ale is loaded with US-grown Cascade, Crystal, and Columbus hops, so be sure to take a good sniff to enjoy their robust aromas before taking your first sip. Sensory Profile: An aromatic beer with notes of citrus, pine, a noticeable bitterness, and a touch of malty backbone to help balance it out. Food Pairing: Foods with a spicy kick are a great match, as the bitterness of the hops will help to cool the palate before your next bite. Mexican food and pizza are natural matches.

Draught@Cap’n. Clearish dark golden pour. Excellent white foam with plenty of lacing. Gentle, clean, aromatic hops. Low proportion of crystal malts ensure ultimate drinkability. All about the crisp and fresh pale malts. Excellent hop complexity. Citrusy and crisp, piney and very drinkable. Hefty bitterness for 35 IBUs. Floral and sprucey. Pure hop flavours. It had been a while since I’d had such a vibrant and fresh pale ale.

Growler; a week old. Murky, fire hued pour of burnt orange, producing a thin milky head and a resistant film of sticky lacing down the glass. Aroma is bright and warm with tropical hops; sweet and tangy nectarine, peach, and pineapple alongside a complementing bitterness of dandelion, rubbed sage and wet grass. Toasted sesame seed, honey, toffee, and raspberry give some well-bridled richness beneath. Tastes firmly bitter with pear skin and flowers; dark and sprightly at the same time, with a syrupy sweetness of orange juice, semi-sweet chocolate, and grahams layering over lavender and bland foliage. Healthy yeasts in wheat cracker form. Palate is medium bodied, crisp, and moderately carbonated, though it has certainly lost some spark. Finishes clean and very juicy with raw, heavily steeped black tea and peach; absurdly drinkable. Thanks Jason!

On tap at Captain Lawrence brewery. Golden amber with good head. Lively aroma of citrus/fruity and piney hops with good amount of bready caramel malt. Perfect balance between: (1) sweetness up front and bitterness from the middle onward; (2) hops and malt; and (3) Cascade to other hops used. Medium body with smooth mouthfeel.

Pours amber brown. Minimal head. Nose is mild. Slight pine tones. Flavor is unbelievably smooth. Move aside hop bombs. Smooth hearty and meaty tones of hops. Feel is nice and thick on liquid with a good carbonation. Oh so drinkable. I feel like this is what an APA should be. Stellar.

A great Pale overall Aroma has some nice citrus and piney hops. Very fragrant and has some caramel malts to balance it out. Same as taste. Very well rounded and balanced. Flavorful and drinkable with a great hop presence. Not a winpy pale. Very good.

On tap at the CL tasting room. Pours a clear golden orange with a moderate yellow-white head that lasted through most of the glass. Pleasant floral aroma with some citrus notes as well. The hops really come alive in the flavor. Lots of citrus along with some pine. Some light malt adds some support to the hops. Bitter finish. Nicely done pale ale.

Growler from rebelbeerguy. Pours a clear orange amber with a small off white frothy head. Aroma of lots and lots of hops, citrus zest, dough and a slight touch of spearamint. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. Bitter flavor of grapefruit and bread. I know it’s just a pale ale but it’s a wonderfully done pale ale. Once again the Captain leads the way.

Draft. Hoppy, crisp and drinkable APA. Golden body with a slight off-white head. The aroma is not in your face, but does give you citrus, pine and more than a hint of flowers. Some caramel in the background. The flavor is lightly to moderately bitter and lightly to moderately sweet. The medium body has a watery texture. Bitter, floral aftertaste. Very drinkable.
