Balsamic vinegar, cinnamon and only a hint of smoke in the aroma. the smoke is more noticeable in the flavor, that has some oaky and sour notes, bretty even. Hint of licorice. Delicious, well balanced beer with some warming alcohol in spite of the modest ABV. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

Fruity flavour as well, oak, malts. A very odd mix of flavours. Bit too weird for me. jbrus (4895), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Bottle@DTS. Complex aroma of oak, vanilla, hints of cherry and light lactic. Very dark brown color, fine beige head, very nice lace. Sweet, bitter, sour. Actually very weird stuff. Flavors are not bad but rather unbalanced. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Dragonstout, I believe. The aroma is wonder of wonders, heavily defined by bourbon and oak. This gives it a boozy quality which encompasses the cocoa, chocolate, roasted malt aromas beneath it. The body is black with ruby hues and holds a fading pinky sized tan head. Very boozy on the first sip, bourbon galore. Beneath that is a somewhat watered down chocolate, roasted malt accented porter. I personally would like to taste more of that porter. hellbilly (1564), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2008 sampled with the phoenix crew. provided by sparky27... this has the same basic smoked porter characteristics in the aroma as the other two but they are rather muted by the unmistakable aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla sweetness. the flavor is also dominated by the bourbon, oak and vanilla but in a good way... it’s really well integrated with the dark fruit, brown sugar, cocoa and smoke. sourness remains in the finish. medium body but it has an insanely smooth and velvety mouth feel. the best of the three, actually... | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a big tan head. Aroma is bourbon, dark fruit, plum fig prunes. Some smoke from the porter seeps through with some sweet maltiness. Not my favorite bourbon barrel but an awesome bourbon porter none the less. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2008 07 Vintage Batch #1. Pours burgundy with an explosive head that lingers for a bit. Good lacing. Aromas of dark fruit like plumb and nectarine. Medium nectar with high carbonation. Big ole fluffy plume of froth on the palate. Flavor wise this is a little disappointing. Theres a mild acidic souring upfront with moderate booze essence. Stew up some dates, figs, plumbs, nectarines, peaches and apricot and reduce it to a sludge. Then add some lemon juice and a shot of Bookers. Squeeze the juice out and here you have it. And although the abv says 6.4%, I tell you it’s way off. More like 9. There a little funk to it. The finish lingers with booze and acidity with a bit of cocoa. I never would have guessed this to be a porter.
