Commercial Description:
I am big fan of bourbon. It is one of the only true American distillated, and has a long rich history to go with it. Many people don’t know that by law, for a whiskey to be called bourbon, it must be aged in brand new, charred American oak barrels. So once that bourbon is dumped from the barrel for bottling that barrel can no longer be used to make bourbon and is of no more use to the distiller. That’s were we come in. We acquired freshly emptied bourbon barrels to age our Smoked Porter in, and it was worth the extra effort. We present to you the perfect marriage of beer, bourbon and oak for you to enjoy.

Courtesy jdubfl, thanks Justin. Pours deep dark with frothy tan head. The aroma is sour sourness and a little else. The taste has hints of roast and malts and bourbon before the sourness ratchets up the tartness, crushed aspirin, sour and sense of tart un-ripe berry fruitiness. Interesting.

750ml bottle (batch # 1) via trade a while back. Pours a very dark brown with a 2 finger thick beige/tan head. I was expecting more bourbon on the nose. What I got was kind of wine barrel aromas apposed to bourbon. Oak, smoke and some sour funk. As the beer set, some of the tartness subsided and more of the bourbon started to come through. Even though it wasn’t what I expected, a great brew non the less.

Great aroma, can smell the bourbon coming through right off the bat. Then you go to taste it, and it’s sour taste is way to over powering. As it warmed more brandy came out, but I’m going to go ahead and say that the sourness was not the original intent of this flavor in this beer

Thanks jdubfl for the share. Pours dark brown with a dark brown head. Nose is sour, almost balsamic vinegar, with some sweet roasted notes. Flavor is sweet with cherries, vanilla, and definite spicy characteristics. I agree with gunhaver in that the chocolate is distant- it does not take center stage. Enjoyable, and definitely unique.

Bottle courtesy of jdubfl. Pours a murky pitch black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sour and floral with notes of sour ripe fruit, vinegar, tart cherries, wood, bourbon and hints of smoke. Flavor is sweet and floral with sour ripe fruit, cherries, bourbon, vanilla, overripe fruit some hints of spice. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing smoky and malty finish.

Bottle, courtesy jdubfl. Black pour with red highlights. Very thick fluffy cloud-like head, and sticky lacing. Dark fruit in the nose, floral notes, some bourbon, cinnamon and spices, and very distant roast. Slight woodsy tone. Very nice, thick dark fruit with tart cherry notes, some floral tones, citrus, and distant chocolate. Balanced, very rich and delicious.

courtesy of jdubfl. Interesting and amazing beer, a bitter porter. Pours black with beige head. Aroma has good tart nose with light oak wood. Taste, tartness at first with caramel malts and chocolate following with dark fruits (currants). Overall bourbon mouthfeel is weak and adds a light smokey touch to the palate.
