Commercial Description:
I am big fan of bourbon. It is one of the only true American distillated, and has a long rich history to go with it. Many people don’t know that by law, for a whiskey to be called bourbon, it must be aged in brand new, charred American oak barrels. So once that bourbon is dumped from the barrel for bottling that barrel can no longer be used to make bourbon and is of no more use to the distiller. That’s were we come in. We acquired freshly emptied bourbon barrels to age our Smoked Porter in, and it was worth the extra effort. We present to you the perfect marriage of beer, bourbon and oak for you to enjoy.

The pour reveals a dark brown color with a medium, light brown head. Superb aroma of bourbon barrell, roasted malt and chocolate. Excellent flavor of bourbon barrell, roasted malt, chocolate and some fruity esters. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and lively carbonation. Great.

sampled with the phoenix crew. provided by sparky27... this has the same basic smoked porter characteristics in the aroma as the other two but they are rather muted by the unmistakable aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla sweetness. the flavor is also dominated by the bourbon, oak and vanilla but in a good way... it’s really well integrated with the dark fruit, brown sugar, cocoa and smoke. sourness remains in the finish. medium body but it has an insanely smooth and velvety mouth feel. the best of the three, actually...

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a big tan head. Aroma is bourbon, dark fruit, plum fig prunes. Some smoke from the porter seeps through with some sweet maltiness. Not my favorite bourbon barrel but an awesome bourbon porter none the less.

07 Vintage Batch #1. Pours burgundy with an explosive head that lingers for a bit. Good lacing. Aromas of dark fruit like plumb and nectarine. Medium nectar with high carbonation. Big ole fluffy plume of froth on the palate. Flavor wise this is a little disappointing. Theres a mild acidic souring upfront with moderate booze essence. Stew up some dates, figs, plumbs, nectarines, peaches and apricot and reduce it to a sludge. Then add some lemon juice and a shot of Bookers. Squeeze the juice out and here you have it. And although the abv says 6.4%, I tell you it’s way off. More like 9. There a little funk to it. The finish lingers with booze and acidity with a bit of cocoa. I never would have guessed this to be a porter.

Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. Wood an bourbon for aroma. Brown body. Flavor of oak wook like I just ren into an oak tree and bit it. Sweet caramel presence along with a dry roasted malt finish. Good brew.

Sampled at hellbilly’s hellraiser II, along with the wine and rum varieties. Lots of sweet caramel, bourbon, smoke and vanilla in the aroma. Some roasty malt and sourness in the flavor, along with everything else. Some sourness really comes through on the finish. My favorite of the three.
