Captain Lawrence Smoke from the Oak (Rum Barrel)

Thanks to Jeff for this bottle. Cap pops off, then starts gushing a bit. Pours out dark brown with a medium hued large tan head. Aroma of oak, rum, alcohol and molasses. Taste is complex, sugary molasses of the rum is hiding in the background, smoky/roasted malts come through slight dried fruit, with a slightly alcohol/oak/earthy rum finish. Being both a big rum lover and beer lover, this was a very good marriage of two great things.

Bottles from puzzl and EricTheRed (BA). Thanks guys! Dark brown body with a medium sized tan cover, lasting. The nose is molasses, chocolate, light roast and light rum, but not boozy in anyway. The flavor is fairly subdued and lightly sweet with milk chocolate, molasses, rum and raisins. Medium body is very soft with light carbonation and a bit warmth on the finish. Very nicely done barrel aged beer.

Slight gushing to huge, greige head, dense & creamy; leaving good lace over practically black beer, with just an accajou lining. Slightly sourish, lactic acid and grapey nose, fruits of the field, some fusels, alcohol and discreet dried fruits; some milkchocolate - very complex. Sourish, woody & lactic taste with a chocolate background. Black grapes, raisins, and other dark fruit. Faraway rum (positive - normally I thouroughly dislike rum). Ends very dry-woody, even bitterish. Medium bodied, thinner by the acids & fusels. Quite good, if less overpowering than the nose suggests. Thanks to puzzl!

Bottle courtesy and enjoyed with golubj. Poured a black color with a large tan head. Aroma of rum, roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor was very good, but the porter flavors could have been more pronounced. However, this was an excellent brew.

Bottle. Aroma of rum and pineapple (like malibu rum), some roasted malt, and plum. Slightly tingly and yeasty like a Unibrou. Flavor is like the aroma, but the rum might be a little overpowering. Enjoyed overall.

Black, thin tan head. Lightly smokey aroma with chocolate, and a light sourness. Definite sourness in the taste, chocolate, light vanilla. Came out of the bottle like a elementary school volcano project. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t supposed to taste this way.
