Commercial Description:
The marriage of beer and oak is a truly wonderful thing. Just like wine, whiskey or rum, beer can also gain in complexity when aged in oak barrels. But if you take it one step further and age the beer in oak barrels that had previously held word class wine, well then you can elevate the experience even higher. This is our Smoked Porter, aged in French oak barrels that were previously used to age Merlot and Pinot Noir. We let the beer age in the barrels for around 12 months before adding a fresh dose of yeast to allow the beer to naturally carbonate in the bottle.

Tanks to the people that sent me bottles of this brew! Pour is dark brown with a large off white head. Aroma is sour and woody. Has a strong wine character. Flavor is sour/tart and the barrel shows up again. I don’t get any porter like quality at all as the wine takes over almost entirely. Smooth and easy to drink. I liked this beer, but it is very different.

Bottle courtesy of ?? Pours black, with a brownish head. Aroma is of dark fruits and caramel. Malt and light taste of oak, lightly roasted and couldn’t really find any "smoke" in this beer. Maybe alittle too acidic.

Thanks pantanap. Batch 2. Pours to a dark brown body with a creamy medium brown head. The aroma is really chocolatey with a nice oaken wine. That’s very subtle however. Also subtle is the smoke. I love the creamy chocolate aroma. The flavor is a dry cocoa powder body with a grape jam and tangy oak barrel. Very subtle and nicely balanced. The palate is dry, creamy, and has a subtle smoke.

750ml bottle (batch 2).....an explosive pour for sure and i wish i listened to all the disclaimers instead of just opening it without a glass or sink around. anywho, the pour is dark and almost black. the huge light brown head took a few minutes to settle after the gush.... a solid aroma of red wine, vinous qualities, cherries, sour oak and light shades of chocolate.....wine, cherries, oak, dusty chocolate, and a little smoke make up most of the flavors. a pretty dry finish left me wanting a little more. silky smooth mouthfeel makes this a whole lot better.

RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 98, Porter, English Pint, Stem Glass ABV, Volume & Calories: 6.4% in 25.4 fl oz. estimated at 340C Purchased at: OakTree Buy Rite in South Plainsfield, NJ for $14.99 (special thanks to Jay for this back store grab.) Aroma: wine, oak, age, extraordinary, overwhelming, pungent. 10 out of 10. Visuals: fully opaque, black, thin wispy tan head, strong lacing. 5 out of 5. Taste: grapes, oak, electric, sauerkraut, wet, burnt, pine, cherry, beautifully crafted. 9 out of 10. Palate: surf, mercury, long, strong, bitter, sour. 5 out of 5. Overall: Reminds me of the smell of a house burning. I wouldn’t seek it out again - smoked is not my favorite style, though I’m glad I had a chance to sample it. It’s extremely well crafted, and in my palate, it’s extremely close to wine. 17 out of 20.
