Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2009 A deep dark porter with mahoganny hues, and a thin moka head. A good aroma of intense chocolate with light peated noted. In mouth, a smooth chocolate with light peated coffee beans, very subdued, a bit thin, but quite pleasant. Cask at Syracuse Real Ale Festival, Oct. 23 2009. j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Sep 12, 2009
On tap at Captain Lawrence during the release of Smoke from the Oak Apple Brandy Barrel. Had this a number of times but realized I’ve never rated it, so I figured I should finally sit down with some and get down to it. Pours a flat black with a medium tanned beige head. Caramel, smoke (bordering on hints of bacon, but still lovely), roast, and coffee. Medium bodied with some more light smoke and roast and coffee notes coming through. Finishes up lightly with even more roast character. Afterward blended this one for one with the pumpkin ale – highly recommended and quite delicious.
Jblauvs (531), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Sep 6, 2009 Sampled at Ithaca Brewfest. Dark pour with a slight tan head. Aroma is smokey malt with some coffee and licorice and some dark bitter chocolate. Flavor is smokey, bitter woodiness, some coffee and baking chocolate undertones. mouthfeel is smooth and luscious. A delight Maltajo (103), TARRYTOWN, New York, USA Sep 4, 2009 On tap at CL! Nice deep brown pour with a nice Carmel head. Spicy chocolet smokey goodness! DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Jul 8, 2009 Updated: Oct 18, 2009On tap at Rattle ’N’ Hum (Midtown, NYC): Pours darker than cola, tastes of sweet, tart dark chocolate. Very bitter, definitely smokey aftertaste that lingers for a while. It’s ok... But not the best porter I’ve tasted. #054 on 08072009, DG. bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 18, 2009 Another old rating. Aroma was of sweet chocolate and some little smoke. Flavor was pretty smooth but nothing overly impressive. Wow, my ratings really suck. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Jun 10, 2009 Growler thanks to dchmela. black body. tan head. Much more malt in the smell than smoke and taste as well. Nice roasty flavor along with chocolatey malt that really compliment the subtle smokiness. Much better as it warms. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 5, 2009 Thanks to dchmela for sharing is growler. Light smoke in the aroma, with a little Christmas ham. Flavor is malty and roasty with just a little smoke in the back. Pretty good smoked porter that gets even better as it warms.
